New York's summer social season started not at the Hamptons, but tonight at the Museum of Modern Art with the book party for former President Bill Clinton's memoirs, My Life. Tout le monde came and went to bask in Clinton's afterglow and to pay homage to the only Democrat in the last quarter century to occupy the White House.
While they may say they came to celebrate his presidency, deep inside they know they really came to see the man who brought Monica Lewinsky to her knees in the Oval Office.
Outside the museum, two FReepers (Doctor Raoul and firebrand) stood across the street greeting the celebrants with this reminder: a large sign that said, "IF OSAMA WAS A PIECE OF ASS, CLINTON WOULD HAVE NAILED HIM."
Sixty Minutes fossil Andy Rooney was the first to encounter the Osama sign bearers. He walked over, read the sign and silently walked away.
Clinton apologist Joe Conason said, "He's a horse's ass" about Raoul to a group taking pictures.
The two FReepers got a fair amount of media interest. Most of the local TV news channels filmed and interviewed them. Look for coverage on the 10 or 11 o'clock news, or in the morning.
Raoul and firebrand had a good time bantering with passersby and some of the guests who were leaving the party.
Scarborough Country just showed a still picture of Doctor Raoul holding the sign.
I assume that if this week's project is successful, you'll be off for a couple of weeks?
This is a very long-term project. Phase One sure is a lot of work, though. ;D
Thanks as always to all of you who get out there! I immensely enjoy the after-freep posts and pics. Wish I could be there, joining in.
I also enjoyed watching you on Fox news today, Kristinn, and of course, I didn't see any protesters on mainstream channels.
Thanks for posting that. It's good advice, isn't it?
There's a huge difference between carrying a sign that says "Bill Clinton's an Asshole" and the Osama sign. I'm sorry you're still carrying a grudge three years on.
You, yourself have done a pretty good job of proving that you think any demonstration you're not involved in is vastly inferior to your own self-greatness. Once in a while, I still peruse the FRiva report thread to pick up your pieces of wit. Manoman you hate FRN!
The day you apologize to Brat, and she accepts, I might start thinking of you as a regular person.
You want to call me a hypocrite, fine. I'm not going to change your mind on this. But there is a difference.
I am curious about one thing - how does a snake wear kneepads? Conason's about the only one I know who can pull that off.
But we will never see eye-to-eye on the fine points of protesting. You're just wayyyyyyyy too smart for this cowtown desert rat from flyover country.
I made the Chicago Tribune and the New York Sun, plus a blog put up by one of the people who stopped to talk to us.
You go, girl!
I hope they spelled your name correctly. Always make sure of that....
GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You guys are fantastic.
They did. The Tribune truncated my quote so that it was fairly meaningless, but Alicia Colon in the Sun did me justice!

A better question would be, "What's to hate?"
Plus Alicia Colon in the New York Sun did a cute little paragraph about my sign, also yesterday. Unfortunately, the Midwest reporter cut my quote in the middle so that it sounds inane. The quote went on to say that probably most of the people in line were planning to sell their books on e-Bay.
