Interesting that the DMN has now published two articles on "leading candidates" for pope. Are they really candidates?

Aside from that, I hope that this expose the DMN is running will help rid our Church of these "men."

DMN is definitely a left-leaning fish-wrapper.

But I concur on the hopes about house cleaning.

My son went from being a kid who was sweet, gentle and sensitive to one who was angry, distant, defeated," said Ms. Salazar, 45. "One who was closed in on himself and didn't want any friends."

Making new Muslim converts daily....plenty of local mosques and Islamic centers to take advantage of the damaged ones... imo

I hope so as well but I am concerned. Could it be there are far worse shepherds out there but the media protects them while going after better but flawed Bishops. I want all the dirty laundry out. I do not trust the media.

Well said. I stopped buying it long ago. I didn't even buy Sunday's edition opting to read the articles on their website and FR.

It isn't clear how Father Vásquez managed to elude arrest repeatedly and stay in ministry, but both church and state apparently played a role.

Okay Catholic laity, repeat after me - citizen's arrest. If you come across these people and are aware they have a warrant, detain them, contact the FBI about the international warrant.

Of course, if that doesn't work out we can always get our pitchforks and torches and storm the castle ourselves.

"The kids were crying for him when he left," said Ilsa Celinda Rodríguez, a middle-aged woman who looks after the church grounds. "He had a special group of young altar boys."
If only these kids knew that they had been spared of potential sexual abuse...

Hartford church officials said that they accepted him in 1999 after also getting a good-standing letter from Costa Rica and that they knew of no problems until an estranged relative of the priest told them, in summer 2002, about the criminal case.

They confirmed the information with Costa Rican church officials, said the Rev. John Gatzak, Hartford's spokesman. He said church leaders then alerted the FBI and were advised to do nothing, to avoid tipping off the suspect.

Meanwhile, for seven weeks, Father Vásquez stayed in ministry and vacationed in Mexico, Father Gatzak said.

By Oct. 10, 2002, the Costa Rican prosecutor had obtained an address for the suspect's parish in Connecticut and asked Interpol to verify it. That same day, Father Gatzak said, the FBI questioned Father Vásquez in the presence of Auxiliary Bishop Peter Rosazza but did not detain him.

There was no international arrest warrant in place, enabling the priest to get away again, hours later. Connecticut FBI spokeswoman Lisa Bull would say only that "we don't comment on investigative activity we are conducting or have conducted."

What is up with the rest of these morons? Heck, they may as well as given him the plane ticket. Then hide behind "I didn't know". They are just as damn bad.

"We must not forget that we are pastors, not agents of the FBI or CIA."

Oy!

The innocent victim must be protected from the unjust aggressor. That is a grave duty for those responsible for the well being of the innocent victims, our pastors.

Cardinal Rodríguez belongs to one of the world's largest religious orders, the Salesians of Don Bosco, which focuses on serving poor children around the globe.

These guys have no shame. Here they are suppose to be serving poor children, other than the unborn the most at risk, and they harbor filthy scum. It isn't easy to read these articles but ya know I am glad in a way that the Catholic Church is being held to this standard. Let the press do its worst, the Church needs to be held to a higher standard than Protestants or those in other institutions. Let's face it, for a long time the Catholic Church, at least in this country, has lived off of its good reputation from before Vatican II.

I'm sure Pope Vigilius would have preferred this scandal to the troubles he had to deal with, largely created by himself.

Thanks for the mention of Pope Vigilius. Had not heard about him and my curiosity peaked, did a little "Googling". By George, he sounds like he could have been one of John Kerry's ancestors!

Let's see: according to historians Vigilius appears to have designed his entire career around the goal of becoming someone powerful. John Kerry: check.

Managed to reach his goals via the influence of a wealthy and influential woman. John Kerry: check.

Fell out of favor by angering the powers-that-be via his constant "nuancing" of critical issues of the day. John Kerry: check.

Way too similar!

"I don't see your interest in this, except for morbid fascination," Father López said.

Unfortunately, this statement is an all too true assessment of much of the media coverage and many of those who are following it.

It's clear that the Honduran cardinal is operating in some alternative universe with different moral norms, perhaps those which he himself shaped through the process known as "self-justification."
