I don't care if the Seals use drugs sometimes as long as they are effective at killing the bad guys and don't get caught doing it.
We're at war. I can look the other way as long as we and the country survive. Push has come to shove with the Islamofascists.

Frell, for men chosen in part for their intelligence this was not a smart thing to do. Blowing off steam is necessary, everyone knows this. Just, frell, I'm disappointed in the choices some of these men made. I really hope it does not compromise operational readiness.

My friends fiance, a Navy Seal Instructor in his early 40's (this guy is unbelievable) was called to duty three weeks ago. Somewhere in Africa, he can't even tell her where he is. God bless these people and shame on those who bring shame to all these good men.

Man that sucks. Those men went through hell to earn their tridents and they threw it all away.

Big whoopie dooo. So some kids smoked some ganja. What's new. Leave it to the leftists, those that made dope smoking cool, to now polint fingers at the kids just because the kids in question happen to be soldiers rather than liberals in Seattle or San Fran protesting the war.
When I was in the 82nd Airborne Division back in the late seventies and early to mid eighties they called us the Jumpin' Junkies because we smoked so much hooter on Ardiennes. But we still kicked a$$ and took names when called upon to do so. Kids will be kids. That will always be the way things are unless we want to put a minimum age requirement of say, 35, on incoming soldiers?

Funny, the article never mentions what drugs are used.
To: Wolfie
What'll you bet the drugs were not "recreational" or narcotic drugs, but performance enhancing drugs like steroids or amphetamines? All to make a better warrior.

They should have just gotten pissy-assed drunk like the rest of these hardliners I have been reading in this post...
I am sick of the double standard by these a..holes. It is a far cry from smoking a little weed to becoming a junkie. It's a pretty short trip for alkies!
The point that leaped out to me was: ..."No operations or exercises were affected by the suspected drug use or testing, he added. As I have personally experienced, the effects are far easier to handle, than alcohol. No falling off barstools, no fights, no hangovers, and the only thing i can remember bad was giving me a pretty healthy appetite.
Yes, I have smoked marijuana. It is pretty cool. I drink, too, but can't stand being drunk! Get over it!

If some guy is strong enough, smart enough, and disciplined enough to become a navy seal, then i dont give a damn what he wants to do. He has earned the right to take drugs, and screw you and anyone else who wants to foist their own moral views on the lives of free citizens.

Our first stop is in bogota
To check columbian fields
The natives smile and pass along
A sample of their yield
Sweet jamaican pipe dreams
Golden acapulco nights
Then morocco, and the east,
Fly by morning light
Were on the train to bangkok
Aboard the thailand express
Well hit the stops along the way
We only stop for the best
Wreathed in smoke in lebanon
We burn the midnight oil
The fragrance of afghanistan
Rewards a long days toil pulling into katmandu
Smoke rings fill the air
Perfumed by a nepal night
The express gets you there

Last year, 21 special warfare sailors were discharged after failing drug tests. In 2002, positive tests forced out 32 sailors assigned to Naval Special Warfare.
I wonder how many will receive a letter a year or two later apologizing for a false positive? Even if the newer tests are 99.9% accurate and reliable in a screen of 3,300 There would be 3 or 4 false positives expected - and that would be just from the sweep in Thailand.

Substance abuse is a huge issue in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Philippines, and other WOT locales. I've seen several commanders relieved, NCOs demoted, and careers destroyed over the use of alcohol.
General Order #1, it's not just a good idea, it's the law.
As far as drug use, I've not seen anyone caught on that, but considering how hard they're slamming people for a beer or two, I'd imagine that the consequences are more dire than normal.

The Navy has a zero-tolerance drug policy, and sailors caught using drugs usually are discharged
OK...well I have a "zero tolerance policy" to drug and alcohol use by our senate, congress, judicial and executive branches and feel that if any of them are caught using or abusing either they should be discharged and loose all benefits.
The military should NOT have to be tested for anything if the above mentioned are not !
