Saudi TV airs militants dead in shootout

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi television on Saturday showed the pictures of four militants it said were killed in a shootout that broke out after the slaying of an American hostage, and one of the dead was said to be the reputed al-Qaida leader in the kingdom.

The Interior Ministry's renewed claims that Abdulaziz al-Moqrin was among the dead came shortly after a message on an Islamic militant Web site said the reports of al-Moqrin's saying were false.

Al-Moqrin is the kingdom's most-wanted terror suspect and was believed to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Paul M. Johnson Jr., the American whose beheaded body was found Friday.

The photograph said to be of al-Moqrin showed the face of a young man, clean-shaven except for his mustache. It resembled earlier known photographs of the reputed al-Qaida leader.

A trickle of blood ran from the mouth of another of the militants pictured.

"Security forces managed last night in confrontations with a group of terrorists to kill four of them, the top being Abdulaziz Issa Abdul-Mohsin al-Moqrin, who claims to be the leader of the gang that condemns people as infidels," the state-run TV announcer said, reading from a statement attributed to an unidentified spokesman for the Interior Ministry.

Earlier Saturday, the Web message denied that al-Moqrin had been killed, saying the claims were "aimed at dissuading the holy warriors and crushing their spirits."

The authenticity of that message could not be verified. A U.S. official speaking on condition of anonymity Friday had confirmed Saudi statements that 31-year-old al-Moqrin was dead. A Saudi official said forensic tests would be conducted on the body to confirm his identity.

Saturday's Interior Ministry statement also said authorities confiscated three cars used by the cell, including one believed to be used in the June 6 killing of Irish cameraman Simon Cumbers.

Forged identity papers and a large amount of weapons also were confiscated, including three rocket-propelled grenade launchers, hand grenades and automatic rifles, the statement said.

I'd like to see a good solid confirmation of this by US sources, if not even some group like the Red Cross, because I don't trust these Saudis at all.

And as for those, like JFK, etc., who say we should not have invaded Iraq, if they were to suggest that we should have invaded Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iran, or someother sink hole, then I might agree with them. Because I think that to win the WOT we may eventually have to invade and subdue every single Muslim country on earth.

The saudis just ought to lay him out in the sun on display for a couple of weeks to let his loyal followers come and take a gander.

Not every one (Muslim countries) but the "nice guy" job done in Iraq will deter nobody. Iran, Syria and the area of northern Pakistan where Osama has been hiding out have to be next.

In Iraq we should just level Fallujah - the whole city - everything in it. Thats the kind of Schrecklichkeit which will get their attention.

We should also get our hands on Sadr.

As for Saddam, if the Iraqis want to try and punish him - fine. But WE should maintain custody of his sorry butt until punishment is delt out. There have been far too many occasions when Muslims have permitted their Islamic "brothers" to escape.

In Iran we should help orchestrate a popular revolt against the Ayatollahs. If this is not fruitful, we should take them out ourselves, bombing all their nuclear facilities and providing a biblical example of what other Islamic countries can expect if they fail to control the lunatics in their society themselves.

Syria should be given the Iraq treatment - on a rougher basis.

And the Saudis should be informed quite clearly that unless they clean up there act - and this includes arresting and muzzling those anti-western Wahhabist clerics who hate us so much, our first step is pulling out, and our second step will be to return - with guns blazing. In a worldwide war against Islam we can't premit the Saudi Oil fields to fall into enemy hands.

And, as mentioned by two military experts on the O'Reilly factor last night we need a formal delaration of war against Al Quaida and anyone who supports them. This will give the government additional authority to both fight them and the silence subversive demons in our own midst.

And we should tell the Israelis to take off the gloves in dealing with the Palestinian hordes. Arafat should be killed and everyone who aids or supports him, and if those nutcases in Gaza and the west bank can't behave, take them out too.

We are far beyond the level of half-way measures here. We have beaten better foes than these in WW2, but we were on a total war footing to do it, and this is just as serious as back then.

Further, we must monitor closely and expel, imprison or concentrate under surveillance all American Muslims.

Our very survival as a society is at stake here.

Excellent points...but the Isaelis have taken a much harder stance as of late. Assinating known and unknown Hamas leaders, with missiles, targeted assinations. Thats the way to do this, we must fight fire with fire and destroy these evil bastards.

Z, I agree with every one of your action items.

The thing about war is that, until the enemy is defeated, his actions are not under our control (by definition). Electing Kerry won't end the war, and more Wilsonian BS from the administration won't do so, either.

People with tunnel vision say, "well, if that's true, what can we do?"

Unfortunately, in the present political constellation, WE can't do anything at all.

Until more Al Qaeda attacks in America kill enough of our brothers and sisters to convince our People to elect a leadership which will a) raise an Army and a Navy of sufficient size and power and b) carry out a merciless war against radical Islam; we are screwed.

What an opportunity was lost at Fallujah!

I agree with your reccomendations very much. As for Arafat, it might be the biggest favor the Israelis could do for the Palis, getting rid of that corrupt and self-serving man, who has done more to ruin the Palestinians and their lives than any Zionist/Crusader conspiracy could have ever done.

It's a shame we are bogged down in Iraq, may people felt it might be "on to Syria" last May. If we are really going to have to re-structure Middle East society country by country we are going to have to develop an entirely new fighting force devoted explicitly to "nation building". I know we completely re-structured Japan, but that was after 1. many, many Japanese had been killed, 2. we nuked them; and 3. Japan is a pretty small place even if quite populous.

We should develop an "army" made up of police and other security/emergency personnel, engineers of all kinds, construction workers, teachers and medical professionals and send THEM in after the military has ousted the gov't and subdued the enemy's armed forces.

It's all well and good to have soliders building schools and all, I'm sure they enjoy it very much, but it is not what they are trained for and not the most efficient use of our soliders in a time of war. Of course, in any place, some military would have to remain for security puposes.

Some might say that nation building is what the UN should and does do. But, as anyone with scant knowledge of this subject knows, where the UN goes corruption, inefficiency and worse (death and genocide viz. Rawanda) follows, and becomes entrenched. Look at recent events in Balkans, if there be any doubt.

I think my idea would give many women, and others who do not wish - or are not qualified - to join the fighting military, a way to serve their country and better the world. Sort of a cross between the Marines and the Peace Corp. After their service these folks would be well qualified for many jobs in the US, just as are those who serve in the military now.

I can't think of a catchy name, but I am quite serious about this idea. I'm serious about it because I know just killing the terrorists one by one as we find them is not enough, and I don't think flinging open the doors to democracy is really going to solve the problem either. We may end up with the Muslims freely voting in dictators to rule them, they are so benighted.

SHALOM!

ZULU...Your Post # 6 IS THE BEST I've read on FR in a while!

EXCELLENT!

And I Agree with You 100%.

Now if we could only get President GW Bush to see things that way, we'd really be doing something.

Fallujah...is a Sorry Mess...should have been handled differently...A Dozen or so MOABS would have done the job rather nicely.

And Would have SAVED many Precious AMERICAN Soldier's Lives.

Continued PRAYERS for our TROOPS in harms way.

PRAYERS for our President and Leaders to know and deal with our ENEMY: Amalek...Once and For ALL.

That is civil service I would really support, unlike the minion federalized 'baggage checkers' which just bloats the size of government.  However, the left would never stand for it.  Their standard reasons would be 'low-paying' jobs, forced unionization, etc.  Anything to avoid common sense.

The Interior Ministry's renewed claims that Abdulaziz al-Moqrin was among the dead came shortly after a message on an Islamic militant Web site said the reports of al-Moqrin's saying were false.

AQ doesn't really have a history of denying kills/captures. It's not in their modus operandi to preclude the creation of yet another "matryr." This -- along with the laughable details of the arrest -- leads me to believe that Al Mo is indeed still living. The Saudis are in CYA over-drive at the moment and are no doubt willing to anything to keep the cruise missles from raining down on them.

Sad to say, but our govt. seems to be going along with the charade..
