ASTANA, Kazakhstan (AP) - Russia gave the Bush administration intelligence that suggested Saddam Hussein's regime was preparing attacks against the United States and its interests abroad before the Iraq war, President Vladimir Putin said Friday.
Putin said he couldn't comment on how critical the Russians' information was in U.S. decision to invade Iraq. However, he said the intelligence didn't cause Russia to waver from its firm opposition to the war.
"Indeed, after Sept. 11, 2001, and before the start of the military operation in Iraq, the Russian special services ... received information that officials from Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist attacks in the United States and outside it against the U.S. military and other interests," Putin said.
"Despite that information about terrorist attacks being prepared by Saddam's regime, Russia's position on Iraq remains unchanged," Putin said.
Putin said Russia didn't have any information that Saddam's regime had actually been behind any terrorist acts.

This is something the RATS and lame stream news would like to keep hidden.

More than likely they'll emphasize the fact that although Russia learned that Saddam was behind terror plots against the U.S., they must have been so minor and inconsequential (keying the paint off of parked cars? Mass mailings of doggie doo-doo?) that Putin himself was against the overthrow of that monster regime.
Or seeing how the N.Y.Times never wrote an inconvenient word about the Gulags, they might just ignore this news story, too.

Maybe they'll make it a blurb on the sports page, if they say anything at all. In my mind they no longer qualify as a newspaper, toilet paper, maybe.

Thanks for the ping.
I wonder what the intelligence was that the Russians gave us. I suppose we'll find out the specific nature of the attacks soon enough.
My theory for the Bush administration not going public with this is becuase of the backlash from using foreign intelligence in the Nigeria uranium matter.
I also wonder how the left will talk around this one. The crazy left will probably come up with some conspiracy theory.

The liberal news media may have to turn alien news stories, UFO's and bigfoot sightings.

I tend to think of them as noose-papers: believing what they write is like putting your head through a noose. Their lies can be deadly.
