I thought I heard the sound of one hand clapping at BJs mention, but somebody was just swatting at a fly.

It is those kinds of inconsistencies that convince me that we should be far more careful about assuming that a leader who seems to have a sincere and generous spirit will necessarily be the author of policies that are as wise and compassionate.

So why is every liberal policy always "for the sake of the children"? Why is it that we constantly hear how much Hillary "cares" for everyone? The liberals are always peddling how much they care for everybody... and I agree that the absence of any mention about Bill Clinton's sincerity is an interesting omission.

(Of Ronald Reagan)

As a leader, his preferred language was not that of policy or principle.

Edward Wasserman is Knight professor of journalism ethics

I suppose if your job title is an oxymoron you come out with stupid statements like this.

Yet the Great Society that he engineered represents one of the most ambitious efforts at institutional compassion in the country's history.

Absolutely true. He could also have added most abjectly ineffective and even counter-productive.

But that isn't important, of course. What matters is the intent, not the result. Which rather contradicts the rest of his rant.

I'll take sincerity, thank you.
