He was forced out shortly after that testament to his lack of intellect, and most of us hoped he'd simply go away. His ego, however, apparently mutated by radiation, re-generated.

Not true. After the convention Pat bowed out. Geo lost it all by himself. Dole lost his by himself. W damned near lost his, in what should have been a landslide.
The GOP was highjacked by the 'corner' and many 'conservatives' wouldn't be part of it. The 'right' was and is being bashed out of the party. I don't know, but I hope W makes it again this time around despite his micky mousing around with the liberals.
