engineered the fiasco that came to simply be called "Bitburg"

The Germans insisted on it and Reagan thought it was the right thing to do. Something about SS troopers being buried there as I remember. Is there a cementary in Germany without SS troopers being buried there?

So, according to your logic, Pat was responsible for the tax cut.

You DO remember that he also did all he could to toss the 1992 election to Slick

Not true. After the convention Pat bowed out. Geo lost it all by himself. Dole lost his by himself. W damned near lost his, in what should have been a landslide.

The GOP was highjacked by the 'corner' and many 'conservatives' wouldn't be part of it. The 'right' was and is being bashed out of the party. I don't know, but I hope W makes it again this time around despite his micky mousing around with the liberals.

Check your history. It was PB who pushed like crazy for the wreath-laying, even in the face of severe bad press for his President. Sorry, that is NOT something you do, even IF a foreign government "insists" on it. Since it was the Germans, though, Pat probably couldn't help himself.

As far as the '92 election goes, Pat was instrumental in convincing the American electorate that Republicans were dangerous nutcases by his maniac speech, and his statements. Besides, what kind of abysmal fool runs a campaign of "culture war" when the electorate is primarily concerned with the economy, as it was then?

He wasn't 100% responsible, Ross Perot gets the lion's share of the "spoiler" award, but Pat sure helped drive some votes away!

Oh, and your "corner"...you mean "AMEN" corner, don't you?

You probably have no idea of why that's so ignorant, either.

You rail against Buchanan being called an anti-Semite, yet you take one of his most notorious phrases, for which he was accused of anti-Semitism, and cut out all of the notorious verbiage, reducing it to an anti-Semitic code word.

Personally, I never accused Buchanan of being an anti-Semite for using that particular phrase -- you know, the one you don't have the guts to quote in toto -- but if YOU use it in such a sneaky manner, it must have an anti-Semitic meaning for you that you embrace. Otherwise, why the word games?

Next thing, you'll be pulling out the old "anti-Semitism smear" to innoculate yourself against any and all criticism.

BTW, the Gerries insisted, initially, that there were NO Waffen-SS buried in Bitburg. Plan B was to claim that the Waffen-SS were just elite soldiers, rather than war criminals. I recall a party I attended at the time, in South Germany, where a young fellow insisted, indignantly, that his father had served in the Waffen-SS, and that they had a clean record. I reminded him of their "clean" machine-gunning of American POWs in the Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge, and he shut up.
