FORT WORTH, Texas -- A man is being hailed as a hero for diving into the Trinity River and rescuing a 12-year-old boy.
Tim Biser spotted the boy in the water from his second-floor office window on Monday. The draftsman sprinted down a stairwell and darted across the street and down a grass embankment.
Dressed in jeans, shirt and tennis shoes, Biser dove into the water, swimming toward the panicked child, by then almost 100 feet from a rock dam.
The 46-year-old Biser says he swam until his feet could reach the river's bottom. After a short rest to catch his breath, Biser waded to the bank, where two men helped him and the child out.
The boy, whose identity was not released, was taken to a hospital.
After the rescue, Biser drove home, changed into dry clothes and returned to work. That afternoon, his waterlogged black wallet lay spread out on his desk, still drying.

Somewhere, Ted Kennedy is rolling in his own filth.
Not that he has anything to do with this story...I just thought I'd let you know.

Just 100% American Guts!!! Now this hero will more than likely be sued by some environmentalist wacko group because he upset a fish or two.

Great Story!!!
Word is the Kerry campaign is trying to fit in a meeting for some photos with this hero and to reiterate how Kerry is also a hero with medals for his service in Nam.
To: Trueblackman
What's really a sad statement is that could so easily be true.

The thing that stands out to me is that this guy could have easily ignored it if he had wanted to. He took himself out of a safe situation and put himself at risk. That's a hero.
To: ICX
LOL! Glad I didn't get a visual...

Wow! Do you mean that the writer may have wanted to slam the hero because he works in an office?

Dressed in jeans, shirt and tennis shoes, He would have rescued the child faster and more efficiently if he were wearing a business suit. /sarcasm

I know it can be hard these days, but try to avoid knee-jerk cynicism. I took the comment at face value. The writer was giving readers a verbal picture of the fact that the hero didn't even stop to take time to remove his wallet before diving in to rescue the boy.

If not ignored..called 911 instead of racing to rescue the boy...Time was of the essence and I applaud his courage.

Now, it's just an incidental detail that you don't often encounter in short news items. HL Mencken started out writing little items like this.
