(New York-WABC, June 16, 2004) The FBI has arrested an American citizen living in Queens said to be a sleeper agent for Al Qaeda.
ABC News reports investigators have tied the man to a terrorist cell set to carry out a series of bombings and assassinations in London.
The man, a naturalized citizen from Pakistan, was secretly taken into custody in April.
He is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan and is said to be cooperating offering investigators significant information about Al Qaeda's plans.
He is being held as a material witness and his family is now under federal protection.
The man has told investigators that Al Qaeda is planning more attacks in the United States. He has also revealed a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the Mexican border.
The suspect's assertions were part of the intelligence that led to recent warnings about a summer threat from Al Qaeda.
Another man being held today is kidnapped American Paul Johnson.
A video on an Arabic website shows Johnson blindfolded. His abductors claim to be with a group called "Al Qaeda In The Arabian Peninsula." They say they'll kill Johnson unless Saudi authorities free Al Qaeda prisoners by Friday.
Johnson was taken hostage last Saturday. He has worked in the kingdom since 1992 for defense contractor Lockheed Martin. His son is now trying direct appeals to the kidnappers.
Paul Johnson III, Son: "Whoever's responsible for this, I would trade in a heartbeat for my father. He doesn't deserve this and I plead with y'all to please let my father go."
Johnson's abduction is part of a growing campaign to kill and kidnap Americans, pushing them out of the Saudi Arabia. The royal family vows to pursue anti-western militants more aggressively than ever before.
I'm not laughing at the potential that terrorists may come into our country and attack us.
I am laughing at the trail of identified sources in this article -- an article written by that great anti illegal immigration crusader and that anti terrorism crusader -- ABC news.
LOL!
Personally, I think it's party before country regardless of policy. These folks know damn well the threat our borders pose. The problem is there party/candidate whatever, have stood in silence at our borders, for years now, to the point they are now considered national security time bombs, by folks that understand the epic security risks it poses.
To compound this entire matter, Mexico is not a normal country, they are corrupt beyond belief. We are suppose to be at war and are suppose to be on the defense from terrorist, yet our borders are not only wide open, but they are hemorrhaging with literally millions from God knows where, that are entering this country illegally.
This my friend, is a recipe for utter disaster.
He seems to listen more to Vicente Fox than to the majority of Americans who are demanding that immigration laws be enforced. Most other politicians are going along with the mess.
They're just as afraid of being blown up by terrorists as any other American, and with the virtually open borders they have good reason to be afraid. What does salary have to do with it?
Your question was my thought too.
Why is it that the overwhelming majority of people whining about the border are sitting in front of their computers posting about how the sky is falling as a result of our unmanned southern border instead of down there defending us from the Mexican hoard?
If it is as bad as you claim then be patriots...move down there. Sell your things and buy some two acre ranch...sit out on your porch and cap some illegals....for your country!
Stop looking for posts to whine about it on.
Funny how the majority of whiners about the southern border dont seem to whine about the Northern border as often/smirk.
Hello? Is there anybody home? We need to control the borders before it's too late. We need walls to keep people OUT, not in.
How many Mexicans have come over the northern border, sir? MILLIONS have come over the southern border. Those of us in the border states are outraged! Come to Mexifornia and take a good look.
I'm a Neo, but see above. What's your category, eh?
I'm not surprised. I know how (some of) these people operate.
NYC ping!
The Northern border is just as dangerous, if not more so, because it's even more difficult to defend.
We don't want Fat Teddy and Mad man Biden to be upset again that we aren't treating the terrorists nicely
Well you've just cemented that. Instead of commenting on the article, you seem to want to make me the issue.
What's your category, eh?
You can categorize me as a very concerned American, one that demands our borders and soveriegnty be protected, and one that doesn't attack others of this position.
Any more questions?
You're asking the wrong question. Why would you not demand that our government do it's job? Are they not routinely taking large percentages of our incomes to do a job? Is it not their sworn duty to do the job?
To ask such a question, you must be some kind of strange leftist. I honestly mean that.
It's not just the backdoors of the Mexican and Canadian borders. The front door is wide open too in the form our our insane policy of allowing massive legal immigration of muslims. Three years after 9-11, we're still giving green cards to about 100,000 foreign muslims each year. Pakistan is the largest single source.
Well what it does do is make them scrap their long planned events and start from scratch. True or not it works.
"Insane policy" is exactly correct. What can our leaders be thinking? What is the real motive here?
