Federal Agents Arrest Al-Qaeda Sleeper Agent In Queens
WABC News ^

(New York-WABC, June 16, 2004) — The FBI has arrested an American citizen living in Queens said to be a sleeper agent for Al Qaeda.

ABC News reports investigators have tied the man to a terrorist cell set to carry out a series of bombings and assassinations in London.

The man, a naturalized citizen from Pakistan, was secretly taken into custody in April.

He is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan and is said to be cooperating offering investigators significant information about Al Qaeda's plans.

He is being held as a material witness and his family is now under federal protection.

The man has told investigators that Al Qaeda is planning more attacks in the United States. He has also revealed a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the Mexican border.

The suspect's assertions were part of the intelligence that led to recent warnings about a summer threat from Al Qaeda.

Another man being held today is kidnapped American Paul Johnson.

A video on an Arabic website shows Johnson blindfolded. His abductors claim to be with a group called "Al Qaeda In The Arabian Peninsula." They say they'll kill Johnson unless Saudi authorities free Al Qaeda prisoners by Friday.

Johnson was taken hostage last Saturday. He has worked in the kingdom since 1992 for defense contractor Lockheed Martin. His son is now trying direct appeals to the kidnappers.

Paul Johnson III, Son: "Whoever's responsible for this, I would trade in a heartbeat for my father. He doesn't deserve this and I plead with y'all to please let my father go."

Johnson's abduction is part of a growing campaign to kill and kidnap Americans, pushing them out of the Saudi Arabia. The royal family vows to pursue anti-western militants more aggressively than ever before.

Perhaps you should tell President Bush what you want done and done NOW in your next red phone conversation.

If you're in the business of preventing illegals from crossing the borders, Joe, why in the hell aren't you doing your job? This guy made it all the way to Queens and you didn't stop him!

Uh, no that's not my job, and I haven't a clue what you are talking about.

This guy made it all the way to Queens and you didn't stop him!

Huh? You want me to stop him? I don't work for Homeland Security, or the Border Patrol. Why didn't I stop him? What in the sam hill are you talking about?

Why are you attacking me and attempting to make me the issue? What's your agenda here?

Why not use UAV's to defend US borders?

For years, folks implored the US government to employ some of its whiz-bang technology to secure our southern border:

UAV's have been made at great expense and in great numbers to use half a world away. There, UAV's fly for hours and hours --sometimes even days on end-- to hunt down missiles. UAV's hunt down truck columns, and individual trucks. UAV's also hunt down troop formations and and on rarer occaisions they detect and track single individuals. They do this cheaply, reliably and quietly on blistering hot days, and in the cold dead of night. The use of UAVs to detect and monitor goings-on in the Middle East has been creative, intensive, and their use has been sustained.

The use of UAV's in the Middle-East has been INDISPENDABLE to our resolved war-effort there.

Yet, when we wish to use this technology on our own backyard on a well-established border against the THOUSANDS of illegals that every night litter on and transgress our own long-standing, well-established border, do you know what happens?

It is said that the proposition to UAV's is labeled UNWORKABLE --just "cuz". Using UAV's would be IMPRACTABLE; it would be too COMPLICATED.

So you see, the sable-rattlers who would send your sons out to die in the Middle East are really not so determined to defend America, you see?

It's a joke, and THE JOKE IS ON YOU.

They need it rubbed in their faces. Some of us have be saying the obvious for a long time. The security threat posed from our southern borders is a time bomb for all of us, while those in government stand in silence.

As I've said before, one of these days a 40 foot trailer will be parked in a place like Fort Worth Texas, and it will contain something other than 300 illegal alien criminals.

Our borders are a national disgrace, and a national security time bomb.

Agreed. Don't you love it when the out-of-staters lecture us on border issues? We LIVE with the effects, up close and personal, every day of our lives.
I guess they haven't figured out yet that it's all coming soon to a neighborhood near them as well.

THEN we'll talk.

Update with more info:

NYC suspect linked to Pakistani terrorists in London pub plot

By TOM HAYS
The Associated Press
6/16/04 8:23 PM

NEW YORK (AP) -- A Queens man has been jailed secretly since April on suspicions he joined a Pakistani terrorism cell in a plot against targets in London, officials said Wednesday.

The suspect, Mohammed Junaid Babar, was detained by the Joint Terrorism Task Force on April 10 as a material witness, according to two law enforcement officials. Babar has been in custody since then at the Metropolitan Detention Center in lower Manhattan.

One of the officials, who both spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, alleged Babar aided a plot to "blow up pubs, restaurants and train stations" in London.

The plot was foiled in late March, when British authorities arrested eight suspects and seized 1,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate fertilizer -- which can be used to make explosives -- from a storage locker near central London.

Babar, 29, a U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, has not been publicly charged. Megan Gaffney, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan, declined to comment.

U.S. authorities said Babar, who grew up in Queens, was put on a terror watch list after they learned he made inflammatory remarks to a Canadian news reporter in Pakistan after the Sept. 11 attacks.

The suspect said that despite the fact his mother had escaped from the ninth floor of one of the World Trade Center's towers, his loyalty was "to the Muslims, not the Americans." He also announced his intention to fight with the Taliban against U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

"I'm willing to kill Americans," he said in the televised interview, adding that he had no plans to return to New York.

It was unclear whether Babar went to Afghanistan. But on April 6, he returned to New York, where a team of police investigators and FBI agents put him under surveillance, the officials said.

Babar was arrested four days later while en route to a school for taxi drivers in Long Island City.

The arrest was first reported by ABC News. Its report said the suspect was cooperating with investigators and has warned of more terrorist attacks in the United States.

FBI spokesman James Margolin and police Commissioner Raymond Kelly declined to comment.

He has also revealed a scheme to smuggle terrorists across the Mexican border.

So, what has Vincente Fox done to prevent the terrorist from first entering Mexico?

Bump that!

The depredations of the Mexican slave economy have already cost many human lives. They are going to cost many, many more lives if we don't face the truth. As citizens, we must hold all our leaders accountable for their roles in this ongoing national travesty.

Large amounts of of ammonium nitrate fertilizer are not the worlds smartest choice for open air bombs. The explosion is much too slow to do massive damage, such as OKC in '95. That would be if you could even get an entire truck load to ignite. It needs careful mixing.

I was think along the lines of 200 terrorist in a trailer instead of being packed with 200 illegal aliens, weapons, bio-weapons, dirty bombs or material for other explosives, shoulder fired weapons, and God only knows what else.
