Ideology is very, very powerful.
Some people would give up their lives in order to avoid giving up their beliefs -- be they religious or political
or cultural. Just look at Iraq.
Rather than watch paint dry, I would rather go out and maximize GOP support among evangelicals and the white working class. It is these two groups that are the real growth sectors for the Republican party -- along with
those Hispanics who wish to assimilate, or have.
I stopped being a Democrat a long time ago. I wish more American Jews realized loyalty to principle is more important than loyalty to a party.
There are some who earn like Episcopalians but who vote like Puerto Ricans.
What's equally sad is that Episcopalians are now voting more like Puerto Ricans than like their own forbears.
And unlike Puerto Ricans, they have money and clout.
Mu Jewish relatives are a lost cause, it's amazing to hear them talk about Bush.
As for clout, that's certainly waning. Just look to Herman Badillo.
Episcopalians, on the other hand, I can do without.
Unfortunatly many American Jews DESPISE Christians, and Republicans, and cannot get past it. I recently had a bizarre encounter with a Jewish woman who said she "would rather live under Al Queida that Republicans." I said, "don't you know what they do to Jews? They BEHEAD you" but she wouldn't listen. Go figure.
The only thing I can figure is that many American Jews have an inner death wish. The handwriting for them is clearly on the wall. It's simple, vote Democrat and you have signed your own death warrant, both here in America and in Israel. As for their loyalty to the Democrat "traitor" Party, nothing is as dead as an idea whose time has passed! The current Democrat Party has no life for anyone! It needs to be laid to rest by American voters!!!
If you'd like to be on or off this middle east/political ping list, please FR mail me.
Most of mine are like that, too! My dad and I are pretty much the only smart, sane ones of the bunch.
That's not one of the brightest things ever said on FR, nor is it true. However, it *does* tend to encourage animosity toward Jews.
i am going to send this to my Jewish coworker. he just recently switched his Dem party registration to Independent, in Maryland. He is voting for Bush, albeit reluctantly, bc of the war on terror.
Oh, please, you KNOW it's true.
At the orientation session for GOP convention volunteers last evening, I met a woman from the Upper West Side (Moscow on the Hudson) who is a lifelong registered 'rat who regrets that she voted for the Goreon, and is now such a Bush supporter that she's volunteering for the GOP convention!
A phobia cannot be reasoned with.
No, I don't. But I do know that it's *incredibly* offensive.
i am making progress with him, he started subscribing to the Washington Times because of me a few years back, i gave him Bias to read, but he found Bernard Goldberg a bit shrill. He is discomfited that his role models as Dems for Bush are Zell Miller, with whom he cannot relate, and Ed Koch, whom he has always considered a buffoon. Keep me in mind and if you come across good stuff for me to send him, just let me know. i am trying to make him feel more comfortable about this morphing he is doing.
