Tell me about the callers, I'm almost afraid to ask.

Unfortunately, it was a few years ago that I heard that particular skit, but as I recall, the callers were exactly what you would expect - - they were sputtering and incredulous that an ordained minister could propose "updating" the Nativity story "to make it more interesting and relevant for today's Christians".
By the way, the lucky audience member who caught the catapulted baby Jesus would also win the door prize. I wish I could remember more. It was insanely hilarious, believe me.
I'd like to say I can't imagine, but when you used the words sputtering and incredulous, it all comes back to me.

This will have to make it's way to some social chat room.

It will be tough to translate him to TV.
LOL....I had forgotten about that one. Another time Mr. C4E and I were driving in the car and laughing ourselves silly.

The first Hendrie show I ever heard fooled me completely. Bobbie Dooley's neighborhood held a 4th of July party. One of the planners bought the barbecue meat from Ralphs grocery store rather than from the more-upscale Gelsons (where the celebrities shop, as Bobbi kept saying). The neighbors who ate the lower class meat had to get medical attention, even though it was perfectly okay. Bobbi was wondering whether they should kick the lady who bought the "bad meat" out of the neighborhood. Next time I heard Bobbi as a guest, I caught on to the joke.
Hendrie's show debuted here a few years back.
After the first show, which I found entertaining, I got his schtick and from then on there was little reason to listen.
Thank you for posting this. I've listened to Hendrie for years on replays 10 pm to 1 am eastern.
His characters are all around us.
I sure wish that television would leave its filthy hands off of him. Hendrie works in the theatre of the mind - TV cannot do so. Besides, TV is for the dim-witted amongst us. Radio is still the "hot" medium...SSZ
I love Phil Hendrie. I was quite sad when he went off the air in Houston - and to make room for what? Savage and Hannity? Yee.
"Oooooooh yes, Delores. Rhymes with...."

That's Doug Dannger!
Is the second "n" silent? How do you pronounce that last name? Are you sure you have that spelled right? (grin)
I got the joke and still couldn't find anything funny about his schtick. We already have enough disharmony in this country without manufacturing more. He brings nothing to the dialog but complete idiocy.
Are you one of those who worries that somewhere, someone may be having some fun?
Geesh, lighten...up!
Geesh, lighten...up!
Absolutely not, although I understand your need to cast me in that light. I think the man's material is juvenile at best and would tend to think of it as the kind of humor that would appeal to leftists rather than those on the right. I was delighted when he was dropped from the Houston market.
You go ahead and have fun however you want, but I reserve the right to weigh in on this public personality whom I consider to be a boor.
