We should pick the flag up from off of the ground and fly it again, like true Americans.

We should never give in. Burning the flag would be no different than blowing ourselves up.

God Bless America.

Huh?

You retire the flag generally through fire. You're not "burning" it in order to desecrate it.

you are of course correct. Generally speaking, a flag does not necessarily have to be burned after touching the ground, unless, in the process it has become unsuitable for flying (ie..soiled or frayed beyond repair). Fire is applied as a means of guaranteeing that the flag will not be treated with disrespect.

I believe one of the prerequisites for proper disposal of our flag is to cut the field of stars from the rest of the flag, after which it's not a flag any more, technically speaking.
