WASHINGTON China is sending nuclear technology to Iran in exchange for oil and allowing North Korea to use Chinese air, rail and seaports to ship missiles and other weapons, congressional investigators reported Tuesday.

Although the Bush administration has emphasized a growing convergence with Beijing on halting the spread of weapons of mass destruction and countering terrorism, the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission took a much harder line.

The commission said that many Chinese companies have direct ties to top-level government and military officials.

Worrisome, indeed.

Our real enemies have shown their true faces many years ago, it just seems it doesn't live up to the high standards of most in the media and our politicians. After all, there is business to be conducted with our enemies we are told, we can't let 'little' things like this to stand in the way.

Not surprising.
It is vexing how every single administration has coddled China. The idiotic Nixon overture, Carter abandoning Taiwan, Bush Sr turning a blind eye to the China - Pakistan nuclear axis, Clinton selling his soul and calling them a "strategic partner". GWB started his presidency right, recognizing the Chinese threat. But 9/11 derailed his agenda.
All for the sake of a fistful of dollars. Abortions galore, human right abuses, religious oppression, no problem so long as they are a big market. No good here. Only bad and ugly.

In todays global economy, I would think that almost every country has some kind of link with just about every country.

It is already established.
Republicans were wrong when they tried to impeach Clinton for lying about Lewinsky. The real crime was that he sold our secrets to China and he should have been arrested for treason.

Gee whiz... we can't upset China. We get all kinds of cheap clothes from there! That's way more important than keeping Manhattan from becoming a 13 mile long charcoal briquette.

China's continued failure to adequately curb its proliferation practices poses significant national security concerns to the United States.

Don't talk too much about this, it could interfere with the cheap labor they provide our "free" traders capitalists.

The State Department recently sanctioned five Chinese companies for trading with Iran, but the commission criticized this focus. The commission said that many Chinese companies have direct ties to top-level government and military officials.

The commission said that many Chinese companies have direct ties to top-level government and military officials. The commission read the Cox Report and/or used google to find the thousands and thousands of other sources. The White House and dem Rats look the other way, it appears to me.

In the early days of modern conservativism when Goldwater, Reagan, et al. were defending against mainstream Republicans (Rockefeller Republicans) they had a saying that resonated with working class Americans tired of Democrats and wary of Republicans, "a choce, not an echo."

IMO the sole major difference between the two Parties is President Bush took the war to the enemy while dem Rats (the former Democrat Party) would be filing police reports after each 9/11-style attack, appointing commissions to learn what did past Republican administations do to anger Islam, and railing against rightwing talk radio.

That is a BIG difference and reason enough to vote for President Bush. One day though there has got to be a choice, not an echo. The last time it gave us Ronald Reagan.

I have a feeling that when we finally learn the full truth about 9/11, it will turn out that China was behind it all
