Tune in (if you can stand it) and comment.
I'm sorry, I disagree with you. I guess there were some elements of that, but I think there was some naivite to Reagan and that's why he was able to dream so large. I don't have a problem with that. Yes, there were some condescending moments, but on the whole, I disagree with your assessment. As much as they challenged SDI, they showed that it worked as far as getting the Soviets scared enough to start talking. And that's what it was really about, wasn't it?
When Bubba dies, there won't be tens of thousands of people lining up in the mall to glimpse his remains. We stood for nine hours and longer to show history what we thought of the great Liberator.
Rats lie. That's what history has shown.
That show is chock full of editorializing that gets worse as it goes on. When they talk about the second term the whole this is nothing but opinions. The emphasize that Nancy was push older timers out of the administration with absolutely no proof. They say he "abanondonded old friends" again with no proof ( he just moved them to cabinet positions, BTW.)
Watch in again and look for the editorializing and the sumbliman messages.
And no, SDI was a real program, it was not some ame thought up to scare the Soviets. That is another liberal lie. OIt was mean to work and would have worked. We would be in a much better psition today with China and N. Korea, and India and perhaps Pakistan would not have joined the nuclear club if we had implemented it in the 90's.
That was (and is) the point about SDI. The left, on the other hand, sold us out to the Chinese in the 90's and allowed N. Korea, India and Pakistan to become nuclear powers. What is the point about all of that?
Also, if you listened to the entire Larry King interview you heard Reagan describe how he gave the Soviets a list of political prisoners in the Gulag that he wanted released. He did this before each meeting, and they always released the prisoners.
These dissidents then went back to Moscow and fomented more trouble for Gorbachev.
Reagan made many clever moves but this one was brilliant, and history will give him full credit.
They talked about the release of the prisoners in the PBS documentary. They talked about a group of Pentacostals (?) that were living in the basement of the American Embassy because the Soviets wouldn't let them leave. The Soviets agreed to let them go on the condition that Reagan not "crow" about it. He didn't and that impressed the Soviets and showed them that he was a man of his word.
Wow... I just didn't see it the same way you did.
