Best case scenario: Coalition charges him with war crimes, just before he's transferred to Iraq. Trial begins in August. Lasts 2 months. Saddam convicted and executed around Oct 20. Hoards of Iraqis celebrating in the streets.
Three weeks weeks later, hoards of Americans celebrating GW's victory.

I'm hoping for a nice trial long about October, myself. It may even get equal time with the regurgitated Abu Ghraib stories the networks are currently polishing.

Maybe, with a little rehab and redirection, Saddam might be our guy..Put him back in power, on a short leash, but as far as Saudia Arabia, Iran and Syria, with the Marines and Army holding the leash and lending support. This guy, as much as we may hate him, is the one individual in the Middle East that has shown that he could get the job done (till he screwed with Kuwait and US). Moral problem? The Europeans (the French would think this was cool), Arabs and U.N. love the guy, why should we be so judgemental? Want to stop the Jihad and radical Islam? Saddam may be our man and in the end we can kill him..Just a though.........

Maybe they'll do to Sodamn like the Romanians did to Ceausescu. They had him against the wall and shot before the photographer could set up the camera.

he doesn't have the infrastructure to regain control, and possibly no money left either... these people aren't going to follow saddam because of his theology or political philosophy, only to save their own necks, if possible... i'm counting on the iraqi people to practice swift justice.... if you know what i mean

I'd tend to agree with you, except I wonder how strongly the "world" will clamor for a "fair and public trial".

Hopefully it wouldn't drag out like the Petersen case.

don't count on iraq being considerate of the world court regarding saddam...they won't be governed by pc politics like we are in the united states... i'm also guessing thatMr. H is sweating bullets, as well as divulging all sorts of information to us in a deal to be kept from being handed over to the Iraqi Kurds

When I had squirrel or chipmunk lose in my attic my first thought was to go up there and try to catch him. My wife says "no, send the cat up there." This is what we have here. The U.S. will launder the killing through the Iraqis. Apparently Bush and Co have determined that while there's risk involved, that this way is preferable to political show trials, international legal and political nonsense by the European left. The Iraqis should move fast. Let the cat (Iraqis) deal with him.

p.s. I agree though that if this gets screwed up, Bush is dead meat.

Nonsense.

We will put extreme pressure of our own on the govt. to do the right thing.

If Saddam were released, the Iraqi people would unleash a great fury. And the govt. knows this. No bribes will be taken.

Unless, of course, Saddam comes out screaming that he had lady's panties placed on his head....then we start worrying.

Who? Who will kill him

It's my firm belief that when he is handed over to the governing council that he will have a quick trial and then be executed. I don't claim to be an expert in these matters but my son is in Iraq and has talked to a lot of Iraqis and he says to a man, they want him dead.

Every person he has talked to has had a family member or loved one tortured and or murdered by Sadaam and his sons.

I may be wrong - but keep a good thought.
