The Natural Geopolitical Alignments are Culturally Based;--England (&Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Australia, Possibly South Africa, the USA)--vs "Old Europe--(France, Germany, Maybe Holland, Belgium, maybe Italy, Spain, Portugal, etc.")
Post WW11, Some of these "Alignments" May have been Altered--MOST of them "In Favor Of" the "Anglo-American Axis."
IN SUM;--There is an "English-Speaking Alliance" of Nations which has Formed, "De Facto," UNWILLING to be "Dictated to" by the Failing Socialists of "Old Europe,"(France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, etc.)
The "Political/Cultural Alliances) which have formed (Post-Cold War) are NOT the UTTERLY ARTIFICIAL "Alliances" of the UTTERLY PHONEY "EU!!"
WE--the "English-Speaking Alliance"-- are, & Will Be, the "Economic Engine" which Creates MOST of the Wealth of Humankind over the Next Century.
The "EU" will Do Well NOT to survive as a mere Parasite! (Have we seen ANY "Technological Marvels" which originated in the "EU" in the past 20 Years??)
Russia, & It's Former Satellites May Become "Players!"
If we can Keep "Radical Islam" Chained--OR DESTROY IT (Not a Bad Option)--we will "Go to the Stars!!"

Actually, there was a serious suggestion raised by a small group of influential businessmen and economists about 4 to 6 years ago that, rather than have England join the EU, it should join NAFTA.Historian Robert Conquest devoted the final chapter of his 2000 book Reflections on a Ravaged Century to the idea that the Anglophone countries, the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, should form a strategic block for both trade and defense. He advised his fellow Brits to look west over the shrinking Atlantic, not east over the widening channel.

As an Atlanticist, I support an Anglophone dominated by the US, being a hegemonic force in the world. However, there are undermining forces here.
1. Immigration. All of these countries are losing their British core.
2. the little issues of Northern Ireland and all Anglo-irish relations since the Plantaginant kings looked west.
3. Australia and New Zealand increasing see themselves as partof Asia.
4. Canadian essentially define themselves in opposition to the US.

I don't see why I should have to waste my time doing that, especially at sites that want to send you a confirmation email so that they can ensure that they have your email for which there is no legitimate purpose. The simple solution to that is to use someone else's login info: http://www.bugmenot.com/

The first cogent discussion I've seen which explains the Perot phenomenon (in addition to his main point.)
Hmmmmmm.

Good lines bear repeating; That's what makes classics.

It wouldn't be easy to pull it off, for all the reasons you list and more. But if overall world events were to sour in certain ways over the next few decades, I can see some form of this alliance making a lot of sense to a lot of people, perhaps even majorities of people in the countries concerned.
