Biologists think these could help create treatments for diseases ranging from diabetes to Alzheimer's,

No they don't, if this article is any indication.

But they'll pretend they do, so that they can use a grieving widow as a prop.

Does anyone think that Ronald Reagan would support embryonic stem cell research? Does Nancy think he would?

What's up with this prediction that Alzheimers cases will increase by 50% over next several years (I don't recall exactly how many years, perhap ten)? If it's genetic, then why this huge jump?

Great news! I just called the Office of the President (202-456-1111) and thanked him for holding to his word. All Americans are blessed by God to have such a moral and committed man as our leader.

Right policy; right answer; right choice. Now it's time to do a LOT of education on the subject, and to get some federal research money out there for the kind of stem cells that WILL produce real information, and eventually, real treatments and cures.

limiting federally funded research to 78 lines of embryonic stem cells

How many lines of embryonic stem cells exist outside the Federal ones? Also, it seemsd like hopes are riding high on a lot of maybe and could be.

They are now fighting an uphill battle and I predict that whether W likes it or not the policy will change, hopefully with certain caveats. I am trying to bring myself up to speed on the whole issue.
A recent Business Week had a long article and I am also researching other places.
It look as though that Adult Stem cells and umbilical cord blood are very promising.

This is about Federal dollars, not about what is or is not permitted by law. If grim reapered unborn babies is so wonderful a cure, it won't need the Federal dollars to prove it.
