I somewhat disagree with your conclusion that Bush would win in a landslide should we suffer a truck bomb homicide.
The Dems have positioned themselves to scream "I told you so...", and place blame squarely on the Administration, etc..
"I know, I'm not happy about that conclusion. At the same time, if that were to happen, Bush gets reelected in a landslide, and the mandate would be there for him to wipe from the earth every Maddras, and take out the Saudi's for financing them.

I'll just note how many Democrats were fired in 2002, primarily for trying that, or a weaker version of it.
