John F. Kerry has shattered fundraising records, unified an oft-warring party and pushed past President Bush in some national polls. Yet many Democratic voters, officials and even members of Kerry's staff express an ambivalence -- or angst -- about their presidential candidate that belies this strong public standing.
These Democrats say the enthusiasm for defeating Bush runs much stronger and deeper than the passion for electing Kerry. The chief reason: The senator from Massachusetts, they say, has not crisply articulated what a Kerry presidency would stand for beyond undoing much of the Bush agenda.
So far, these concerns have not slowed Kerry. But if Kerry cannot change this perception coming out of next month's Democratic convention in Boston, it could prove much harder for the party to maximize turnout, win over Ralph Nader voters and keep independents from swinging to Bush, they say.
"There is a danger in that [ambivalence]," said John D. Podesta, White House chief of staff in the Clinton administration. "You can't just be against something. [Voters] want a positive vision of where the country is going, and he has to provide that."

He has. If elected, we're all going to the tax collector's office and give them the shirts off our back. He's positive about that.

And this......:

And this.........:

And finally this....:

The thing that kills me is that although Kerry is unlikeable and not generating excitement with his supporters he still outpolls or breaks even with Bush!
We are in trouble if things dont turn around soon
If Kerry really told people what his presidency stood for, then he wouldn't gt elected. He knows that.
Are we doomed?
People don't know who Kerry is or his record. When his record is exposed to the American people this summer and fall, he will be repudiated with DISGUST.
Kerry is so weak, that our only danger in the meantime is to make sure that they nominate this dud.
We gotta get him nominated first, then we bring out the arsenal.
I don't believe the polls. It's too easy to skew them.
"Supporters Want A Sharper Image" - if they want a sharper image they could take a look at John-Jaquestrap Effin S.O.B Teresa Winthrop Simoes-Ferreira Al Qerry-Heinz III's chin, (circa 1966).
Lets me fair now. Eventually a president either dem or rep will have to raise taxes to clean up the deficit. All good things eventually come to an end. Heck as long as they leave the tax rate on stock dividends at 15% I will be extremely happy.
We can leave them as is if they would stop spending like drunken sailors. In fact, we should cut them more!
Yeah, right. It was George W Bush (and their hatred of him and his policies) that unified the democrats, Kerry just happened to be there, that's all.
Both candidates seem to be polling consistently in the 40% range right now. To me, that means they've just solidified their base support. Neither has made significant inroads into the remaining 20% of the electorate who seem to be capable of going either way. Whoever does will win the election.
And it will come down to a question of if those undecided think Bush should remain in office or not. That consideration will likely override any qualms about Kerry. In the minds of many I talk to, Kerry himself is kind of irrelevant. He's the "not Bush" candidate. So the Bush team needs to either make Kerry something other than the "not Bush" candidate, and that something has to be negative, or they need to put out a positive reason to keep Bush in office. Preferably both (like Reagan did in '84).
Damn the specifics! Full speed ahead! Kerry doesn't need any specifics. (Well, he can't say he's going to kiss French butt and raise taxes, can he?)
kerry keeps flopping and finger flipping alone.
