You could see this coming from a mile away.

Well if Los Angeles were required to change it's name, so would San Diego and San Francisco.

How are we going to stop these Taliban like lefties? Do you think it would help if no democrat ever got elected to office anywhere, ever again?
Whoo boy, I must be hitting that one beer too many, I only live in Hudson County, NJ! I think its about 125% Dem here.

The town of Port Angeles in my neck of the woods is on the ACLU's radar as well, I'd imagine.

violates the constitutional requirement for separation of church and state.I can't say I've ever seen a Constitutional requirement for "separation of church and state.
Is my copy of the Constitution defective?

"its formal name, "The Town of Our Lady the Queen of Angels of the Little Portion"
Well, then how about calling LA just "the little portion"? Surely noone would want a LARGE PORTION of it. I wouldn't.

If they change Santa Monica to Monica, the nickname will spring up instantly --- B.J. City.

And no more naming any other California cities after saints. San Francisco would have to become...let's see now... "Francisco y El Puto".

I don't know what's going to kick off the second Civil War in this country, but I know what the political affiliations of the two sides are going to be.And to be generous, at this rate I think it's going to happen in the next 30 years.

How about we rename Los Angeles, "La Ciudad de la ACLU Can Eat My Shorts"?
To: BurbankKarl
If they go after any city, Corpus Christi, would be first
To: BurbankKarl
"It's far-fetched at this point. I don't think it's going to happen in the next 10 yearsIMHO we can look foreward to the day when the ACLU demands all churches remove all religeous symbols from their exteriors, so as not to "offend" passersby.

A rename contest: A new name for L.A.: City of the wetbacks, perverts, hollyweirds, flakes, nuts, and movielibs. Sounds like a great basis for a new city seal design !

On seperation of Church and State
It is impossible to build sound Constitutional doctrine
on a mistaken understanding of Constitutional history...
The establishment clause had been expressely freighted with
Jeffersons misleading metaphor for nearly forty years...
There is simply no historical foundation for the proposition
that the framers intended to build a wall of seperation [between church and state]...
The recent court decisions are in no way based on either
the language or the intent of the framers.

St. Louis, MO? St. Paul, MN? Las Cruces, NM? The list could go on forever.
Isn't it the first sign of a dictatorship/totalitarian trend when all historical references to the past are systematically eliminated? History will repeat itself if this obliteration is allowed to continue. Why, then, will God bless America when we have stood by silently as He was told He was no longer welcome here.

And except in those cases where the law is clear, the ACLU frequently decides its resources are better spent elsewhere. Sure, such as in defense of the Second Amendment, right? Uh, guys? Where'd everybody go?
To: BurbankKarl
There is a precedent for this. "Saint Petersburg" became "Leningrad" after a certain revolution many years ago, and many other religiously derived names were changed as well. Of course, it is Saint Petersburg again now, and the freedom-to-stamp-out-religion gang might take heed from this fact.
