El Al, Israel's national airline, has started using more female security guards as Air Marshals on passenger airplanes.
A report by Yedioth Ahronot published Sunday said that there is a growing trend of employing women as Air Marshals.
Several women have in recent years broken through to some male dominated Israel Defense Forces units, including Air Force combat pilots and front-line infantry.
El Al is reputed to have the world's most stringent airline security, and its guards all graduates of IDF combat units are put through a difficult training and testing program. According to Yediot, their training is supervised by the Shabak (General Security Service).
On the 28th November 2002 two shoulder-launched missiles narrowly missed an Israeli Arkia jet flying from Mombassa, Kenya to Tel Aviv. In a coordinated assault, 10 Kenyans and three Israelis were killed by suicide bombers at the nearby Paradise Hotel. Al-Qaida took responsibility for the attacks.
According to Yediot, female Shabak bodyguards protecting Israeli leaders have performed as well as their male counterparts. The female security officers are put through the same intensive training as the male officers, "If a woman can pilot an F-16, there is no reason she can't protect a pilot and passengers", an unnamed security official told the paper.
"But I've been a very, verrrry bad passenger, Miss...."
Do they wear leather? ;)
I'm-in-love ping!
I need to know if any of these women are willing to marry a Christian.
I went to the Reagan casket viewing at the Capitol on Thursday night and saw an incredibly cute Secret Service gal with an amazing looking machine gun with many, many extra clips of ammo on her.
Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......
I don't think so. Even the modern ones like to stick to tradition.
"female Shabak bodyguards protecting Israeli leaders have performed as well as their male counterparts."
Are they as big and strong as their male counterparts?
Don't need to be if they're as good a shot as Annie Oakley. And I suspect they are. Israel is more into self-defense than political correctness.
"Don't need to be if they're as good a shot as Annie Oakley."
So you think the only thing a bodyguard needs to be able to do is shoot?
Although the ideal of some traditional circles, especially Fundamentalist Christian circles, is the male being the protector of the female and certain fields forbidden to women (I really have a problem with women in any type of combat role, unless circumstances are exceptional), the strong (mentally/spiritually) woman with the presence of mind, self-assurance, and confidence to ultimately take responsibility for her own protection and not be a victim by learning how to use a firearm proficientlyand indeed, carrying oneis a women that is indeed commendable. It is something distinctly American. It is one of the few situations where a female will "turn my head."
Well, like Ann Coulter.
Likewise, seeing some of the early black and white pictures of the female Jewish settlers wielding firearms in theirs and their children's self-defense, it is also distinctly Jewish. And women in combat in Israel that exceptional scenario.
