A Look Behind the 'Wire' At Guantanamo
Washington Post ^ | June 13, 2004 | Scott Higham

On the U.S. Navy (news - web sites) base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the newly arriving detainees thought they were walking into certain death. Dressed in reddish jumpsuits, a hue reserved for condemned men in the Arab world, the captives believed they were about to be executed.

U.S. military officers wondered whether the fears could work in their favor.

"The detainees think they are being taken to be shot," the military officers noted in one of a series of Defense Department memos written at the base and obtained by The Washington Post. "Should we continue not to tell them what is going on and keep them scared."

The previously undisclosed memos provide one of the most complete pictures to date of life behind the "wire" at Guantanamo. The detainees wanted an extra pair of shorts to wear in the shower, for privacy. They asked that the call to prayer be broadcast in camp, but a CD player could not be found. They asked for tea with "lots of sugar." The response: "Not now. However, we will reconsider in the future." Of the 600 detainees, 200 cooperated with their keepers.

They criticized the US for allowing interrogators access to detainees' medical files, claiming it is a violation of doctor/patient privelege. Then they demand access to detainees' medical files themselves.

Are reddish jumpsuits worse than panties on the head? It's hard to keep up with International Law.

Funny, I heard that the detainees were targeting female American officers outside their wire cells by masturbating furiously.

America has a right to go to the "wire" in terms of psychological mind games with Islamofascists, sorry. We need the information to win the war on terror.

Didn't know that. Very clever. Good for our boys!

I had forgotten about that. I guess they're only modest in front of other Islamofascists.

I wonder if this isn't an Arab tradition ... dressing death row inmates in red.

Would it be torture if the prisoners had speeches of HR Clintonstuff, John F-ing Kerry and Ted "rock hard liver" Kennedy piped in 12 hours a day?

It appears to be a Biblical thing versus a purely Arab tradition. Appears that it would be well a known symbol throughout the Middle East. Here are a few links. Find the word "condemned" in those pages and you'll see what I mean.

Yeah - let's just let the entire world know about our interrogation techniques!

Anti-American govts the world over are in debt to "our" media for supplying invaluable intelligence information.

Damned JERKS! They better be glad I am NOT in the military anymore or I would be turning my sights in a different direction about now.

I watched Rita Cosby's special on GITMO last night on FoxNews. These terrorists are treated about as humanely as possible. The most well behaved ones are even given short field trips on the grounds of GITMO. The ICRC can go pack sand.

ICRC says that they are very scared.

Are they as scared as the people trapped above the 95th floor of the WTC deciding whether to jump or wait to burn to death?

Then they're not scared enough.

ELIYAHU HAKIM AND ELIYAHU BEIT-ZURI

Eliyahu Bet Zuri

Lord Moyne, who was known to be an anti-Zionist, had been appointed Minister of State for the Middle East, and from his place of residence in Cairo, was responsible for implementing the White Paper policy. Lehi, which considered Lord Moyne to be responsible for the deportation of the immigrant ships, decided to assassinate him. Two members of Lehi - Eliyahu Hakim and Eliyahu Bet Zuri - were dispatched to Cairo, and on November 6, 1944, they carried out the assassination, but were caught shortly afterwards. On January 10, 1945 they were charged with murder. Hakim and Beit-Zuri, manacled, stood calmly beside their Egyptian guards with red fezzes. Both were, and had been since their capture, completely self-possessed. They did not take part in the proceedings, and when the testimony was completed, ...

After being sentenced to death, they rose to their feet and sang the national anthem. On March 23, 1945, they were dressed in the traditional, ill-fitting red burlap suit of condemned men, marched barefoot to the gallows, were blindfolded at the scaffold, and hanged.

The ICRC is out of hand. We have to stop taking prisoners, just kill them on the battlefield and the ICRC has nothing to say. Let the blood be on their heads.

Achmed: OK...start wacking everybody.

Abdul: Why are they laughing as furiously as we are masturbating, Achmed?

Yep, there we go. Good find. Here's the other one...link is in my last post above...

"Upon His return to Pilate, Jesus is turned over to the soldiers for torture to appease the crowds. Pilate's soldiers also ridiculed Him and they "wove a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and arrayed Him in a purple robe; and they began to come up to Him, and say, 'Hail, King of the Jews!' and to give Him blows in the face." (John 19:2-3). In John 19:5, He is presented to the crowd in the purple robe. Mark records the same purple robe in 15:17. He was then turned over to the soldiers for preparation for the crucifixion. "They stripped Him, and put a scarlet robe on Him" (Matt. 27:28). He wears now the color of blood. A red suit became the traditional suit of a condemned man."

I should have thought of that. I guess I never thought that reflected a custom, but was specific to The Sacrifice.
