BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A senior official in Iraq's education ministry was shot and fatally wounded in Baghdad on Sunday in the second assassination of a top government official in as many days, a ministry official said.

Kamal al-Jarrah, 63, director-general for cultural relations, was attacked by gunmen as he left his house in western Baghdad Sunday morning and died later in the city's Yarmuk Hospital, Abdul Khaliq al-Amiri, secretary to the education minister, told Reuters.

Jarrah's wife, who was with him, was unhurt in the attack, Amiri said.

Tough time to be a leader in Iraq...or policeman. I have a lot of respect for these folks and their willing to risk personal safety for their nation's betterment. I wonder when outrage on "Iraqui street" will finally trump fear and complacency.

Where is all the outrage against Muslims killing Muslims...That was the excuse used by one of our soldiers for not returning to Iraq...I guess this is a "well, that depends" point.

MOAB is bigger, and it can be released at higher altitudes which gives the C-130 that carries it more protection agains anti-aircraft missles.

War on the cheap - a couple of key assassinations and the citizenry will give up is what they're counting on.

The Iraqi people are going to have to at least turn these murderers in if they ever want their country back.

The problem is that there’s still a sizeable percentage of the population that did better under Saddam and these people are the ones either committing the assassinations or giving refuge to those who are. This isn’t likely to change much in the short term.
