Hi Mike.

That was a lovely service. I value your opinion and I was wondering what you thought about Ron Jr's remarks about religion.

What was your take?

I didn't think much of them, Ron P. Reagan's remarks will only be noticed and commented on by leftist like Chris Matthews.

President Bush has never said he was appointed by God, like the leftist claim. So I tend to ignore comments like Ron's. The leftist media will make a fuss of it, but mainstream America knows the truth, so I consider what Ron said as just another lame attack on our President

Thanks. I was shocked at first when he said it. Not even so much for what he said, but with the look on his face when he did.

To go from eulogizing his dad to such a hard cold look was really uncomfortable for me.

Plus, as you say President Bush never claimed that.

For 90% of Americans, Ron's comments went unnoticed, All Ron was doing is playing it up for his leftist friends

I read a recent article where Micheal hoped Patti and Ron become born again Christians if they intend to see their father in Heaven. I'm a firm believer in that "faith can move mountains". Before I was baptized in the local church a few years ago, along with my folks and my brother and sister, I hadn't attended church since I was in 2nd grade. Since being baptized and now a regular church-goer, I've had a more positive outlook in life, become more optimistic, and mountains have seemed to be moved out of my path in life since I started walking with the Lord.

I saw a FRONTLINE special on PBS that dealt with the religion of President Bush, and the show itself left the impression that President Bush was appointed by God.

Some Liberal on another forum I frequent said this:

Thread Title: Hey Ron Reagan, thumbs up for you guy...

"In your graveside eulogy this evening, discussing how your Dad, though a religious man, did not wear it on his sleeve and use it for political purposes, you put "The Chosen One" in his place. Great work."

"The Chosen One" of course referring to President Bush.

Did the show say that he says that or that others believe it?

I for one tend to believe that at the very least President Bush and President Reagan both are/were very much favored by God.

The show said that he says that, but I have not heard him say that, except from that mealy-mouthed Bob Woodward, who claimed in his book that Bush was appointed by God. This "Appointed by God" talking point stems from the Bob Woodward "hatchet job".

All I know is he said years ago that he felt "led" to run for President.

This was many years ago. To me, that is not the same at all.

I haven't seen Woodward's book.

I tend to believe that God uses everyone on Earth to do His work. I also believe that God doesn't play favorites. The unbelievers cannot "hear" God. God could be getting their attention with a little robin chirping in the tree. To unbelievers, it's just a little robin chirping in the tree.

That I could believe. Felt being "led" down a certain path is not uncommon for a believer.

I think in sort of a roundabout way we are saying the same thing.

God was with Reagan and with Bush because they did heed His call and strived to do His will.

Good point about unbelievers not "hearing" God.

Christians hope that through the guidance of Holy Spirit they will find the way God wants them to take, and follow it. It doesn't seem strange or freaky to me, just normal. To pray for guidance to follow the right path and do the right thing is the sign of a humble person.

Yep! That's exactly what I said about Reagan yesterday. When those around Reagan thought "You must be crazy!", Reagan was strong in his resolve, firm in his belief, unwavering, that in the end, Reagan was right.

Oh yes, that is certainly true. These past 2 years, I've been praying for guidance once a day. Because I know sooner or later, the grandparent with alzheimers that I've been caring for will become a daunting task, that I alone will not be able to shoulder.

Truth be told, I'm about as normal and humble as one can be. :)

I wrote my wife about Ron's eulogy right after hearing it -- she's away on business. I said he was "a self-absorbed little pischer." Haven't seen anything to change my mind.
