"How would Reagan end the Muslim madness? "
Jewish World Review ^ | 6/10/04 | Gal Luft

President Reagan's death brought to the fore his outstanding accomplishment of ending the Cold War. Like American presidents before him he led the U.S. in the charge against the "evil empire" by forging alliances and sending troops to remote theaters at high cost in blood and treasury. What makes Reagan's vision for victory particularly remarkable is that it stemmed from the belief in the power of technology as both a force multiplier and a game changer.

For the three and a half decades that preceded Reagan's presidency, Americans lived in the ominous shadow of a thermonuclear war that threatened to bring destruction to the planet. Two years into his first term, Reagan invited some of America's leading scientists to "give us the means of rendering these nuclear weapons impotent and obsolete." The result was a radical decision to develop a new system, which became known as "Star Wars," to reduce the threat of nuclear missiles by destroying them from space. The decision was met with a mixture skepticism and ridicule. Critics pointed to the technological barriers and the huge costs involved. But Reagan did not falter and insisted on pursuing the project. His gambit worked. The Soviets, already burdened by poor economy, proposed to eliminate all nuclear weapons over 15 years, contingent on the U.S backing off the project. Reagan declined and within a year the two superpowers began negotiations toward nuclear disarmament and permanent peace.

Thus ended the Cold War.

Good article. Won't sit well with the globalists and neocons who think all things domestic are "bad" for the economy. Wouldn't want to employ an expensive American worker now would we. It would not be fair to the corporations and would cause them strain and stress.

/sarc rant

If President Bush wants to achieve similar success, he should follow their footsteps and initiate a national effort in the scale of the Manhattan Project and Star Wars aimed at ending U.S. dependence on foreign oil.

Actually, red, it's a rather dumb article. This simplistic admonition, with nothing behind it, could be uttered by a high school sophomore.

If it were possible, and cost effective, to supply our energy needs entirely from within the United States, we would have done so by now.

Besides, let's use up their oil, first.

I agree that ending dependence on oil would be a good thing, but that's not the reason for our trouble with Islamofascists.

The problem is Islam itself. They want us dead, regardless of our oil consumption. It's akin to saying that worldwide muslim violence is all because of Israel.

Yes. He took the heat to Kadafi (sp.) and by the
time Reagan got through, his turban was knocked all
whompey-jawed.

Would Muslims be building mosques, Islamic training centers and summer camps around the USA or buying up huge tracs of rural real estate?

Would they have been allowed to immigrate to the USA....?

Would the borders be still be wide open....to narco, politcal and islamo-fascist terrorists?

Would our military been allowed to run down?...their officers and NCOs have left in great numbers out of disgust?...our equipment rusted without preventive maintainance?...and have to have been nearly all replaced...at ten times the cost of having kept it properly maintained and troops training kept up to date...?

Would they have dared to attack us....knowing the response ?

Had Ronald Reagan or a man like him...been president and healthy for the last 16 years?
