Rush Limbaugh, Wife Set to Divorce

Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh announced Friday that he and his wife, Marta, are divorcing.

The Limbaughs "mutually decided to end their marriage of 10 years" and have "separated pending an amicable resolution," according to a statement released by Limbaugh's publicist.

The couple shared a $24 million oceanfront mansion in nearby Palm Beach, from where Limbaugh often broadcast his daily three-hour show.

Spokesman Tony Knight said the matter was personal and declined further comment.

It was the third marriage for both Limbaugh, 53, and his 44-year-old wife, who were wed May 27, 1994, at the Virginia home of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Thomas officiated the ceremony.

The past several months have been difficult for the politically and socially conservative Limbaugh, who announced in October that he was entering drug rehabilitation because he was addicted to prescription painkillers.

At the same time, West Palm Beach prosecutors announced they were investigating whether Limbaugh illegally went "doctor shopping" to obtain the pills. The practice refers to visiting several doctors to receive duplicate prescriptions of controlled narcotics.

Limbaugh, who has not been charged with any crime, has repeatedly fought back against the charges and negative publicity he's received over the matter.

Last month, he took out full-page ads in two Florida newspapers to attack prosecutors for mounting what he called a politically motivated investigation. He also regularly lashes out against prosecutors and reporters and defends himself during his show.

The criminal case against Limbaugh is on hold pending a decision from a Florida appeals court. It will decide whether the seizure of Limbaugh's medical records, which were taken by investigators in November, violated privacy laws.

Prosecutors say they need the records to determine whether to bring charges against Limbaugh.

It is sad. I feel badly for Rush and will remember him in my prayers.

Exactly! Also, we will never know the extent that Rush's physical health affected their relationship. Besides the back pain, he also had a very sensitive ear operation. For many, such hardship makes a relationship grow stronger. Nancy Reagan's dedication to President Reagan is a case in point. Maybe the Limbaugh's could look at the example set by the Reagans and rededicate their efforts to support each other.

When one reaches carreer success at Rush's level, one is tempted to ignore the human issues that can smolder in the background until they rear up and bite. This sense of invulnerability is Achilles heel of many celebrities. They want to live the good times while neglecting those human issues that tie a relationship together. This could be interpreted as going along for the ride. However, I think of it in surfing terms: catching the good wave and riding it out. When you are in the groove, you don't want to concern yourself with anything else. Rush and Marta need to declare that their surfer days are over and it is time to go to work on their relationship. Bailing out is not an option.

Rush's claim to be a perfect role model for the 'yout' of America takes another hit.

"I hope their separation was not caused by the hostility of an out-of-control State Attorney's political witch hunt against Rush Limbaugh and all the stresses that bears upon a marriage."

I think you may have hit the nail on the head as far as the cause of the divorce.

And yet another Dittohead without a thought, unless approved by El Rushbo himself.

The man has failed at marriage three times...he smokes...he admittedly abused prescription drugs and may have broken the law in doing so...he attends no church that I'm aware of...why would I want any child of mine to imitate that?

Here is my two cents. I have felt from the start that Mrs. Rush was a gold digger from the start.

So much for personal responsibility:

The democrats caused the demise of Rush's marriage.

I agree. It is obvious that Rush is a strong family values conservative (although the liberal media loves to make up lies and slander about him). There is NO WAY such a great man could ever be at fault.

OK Freepers. We've all learned about Rush's latest challenge - his pending divorce from Marta.

Fighting all that he has to fight right now must be taking a terrible toll on him.

So, we need to mobilize and find him a soul mate to help him through this difficult time.

Therefore I propose you ALL email Rush and suggest he call up LAURA INGRAHAM and ANN COULTER, invite them to lunch, and see what happens. After all I can think of no other two conservative babes who seem to have more in common with Rush.

Then, send separate emails to both LAURA and ANN, making the same suggestion that they ought to give Rush a 'condolence' call, maybe go out to dinner with him, and - well, see if anything sparks there.

Here are their email addresses:

rush@eibnet.com

suggestions@lauraingraham.com

tom@anncoulter.org

Let's help out both Rush and these two lovely ladies - after all, think about how much enjoyment and learning we have gotten from all three of them!

So, c'mon Freepers - it will only take you 5 minutes to fire off these three emails!!

Now - GO TO IT!!!!!

Dittohead yes. Since Highschool. Unable to think on my own...not hardly.

I'm on my third marriage. What's your point?

OMG He smkoes cigars! Let's shoot him!

He had a problem with painkillers related to a back injury.

He's human.

Who would you rather a child of your model themselves after? Clinton? Kerry? LaRouche?

I get the impression it was probably the other way around...late last week, Rush told callers he was in a "really bad mood," but refused to say why. Something made me wonder if Rush and Marta were about to split, and now we have this announcement. Having someone drop divorce papers on you will definintely darken one's mood. For some reason, that made me think of one of Johnny Carson's classic lines when he was going through one of his divorces in the early 80s. "I just heard from my cat's lawyer," Carson announced one evening, "He wants $2000 a month for Tender Vittles."

I wonder how much Marta plans to extract from Rush? She has long had a reputation for high living and spending. After their marriage, she supervised the "redecoration" of Rush's apartment of NYC, and I've heard that she was the driving force behind their move to Florida. Also, perhaps someone can clarify this for me: is it true that Marta (at one time) either lost custody or surrendered custody of her kids from a previous marriage?

Something tells me this divorce will become very public and nasty....
