Rush Limbaugh, Wife Set to Divorce

Conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh announced Friday that he and his wife, Marta, are divorcing.

The Limbaughs "mutually decided to end their marriage of 10 years" and have "separated pending an amicable resolution," according to a statement released by Limbaugh's publicist.

The couple shared a $24 million oceanfront mansion in nearby Palm Beach, from where Limbaugh often broadcast his daily three-hour show.

Spokesman Tony Knight said the matter was personal and declined further comment.

It was the third marriage for both Limbaugh, 53, and his 44-year-old wife, who were wed May 27, 1994, at the Virginia home of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Thomas officiated the ceremony.

The past several months have been difficult for the politically and socially conservative Limbaugh, who announced in October that he was entering drug rehabilitation because he was addicted to prescription painkillers.

At the same time, West Palm Beach prosecutors announced they were investigating whether Limbaugh illegally went "doctor shopping" to obtain the pills. The practice refers to visiting several doctors to receive duplicate prescriptions of controlled narcotics.

Limbaugh, who has not been charged with any crime, has repeatedly fought back against the charges and negative publicity he's received over the matter.

Last month, he took out full-page ads in two Florida newspapers to attack prosecutors for mounting what he called a politically motivated investigation. He also regularly lashes out against prosecutors and reporters and defends himself during his show.

The criminal case against Limbaugh is on hold pending a decision from a Florida appeals court. It will decide whether the seizure of Limbaugh's medical records, which were taken by investigators in November, violated privacy laws.

Prosecutors say they need the records to determine whether to bring charges against Limbaugh.

A person doesn't need to be perfect to recognize the difference between right and wrong.

Untrue. I'm perfectly right and you're perfectly wrong. ;^)

Just because someone does not have a degree does not make them uneducated.

True, and there are some young people who are very wise, but RL understands say, world history like my 6 year old granddaughter understands married life.  Sure he reads a lot and talks to lots of neat people, but he also has a habit of shooting his mouth off before his hired help can rein him in.

You assume it was Rush. It is reasonable to consider that SHE may have had the affair. Perhaps marta was responsible for hiring the maid. Perhaps Marta got rush into this entire mess with drug dealing extortion. (how difficult is it for a wife to "place" a few damaging emails as insurance or worse.)

Could Rush have been covering for Marta, men do have a tendency to cover for a wife. Up to a point, at least.

What an assanine thing to say. But I'm not surprised that most of the men here are so quick to blame the woman. Have you ever lived with a drug addict?

Sure it does. Didn't you get the press release?

I got the press release and I was going to post it, but I was afraid it might be a duplicate. (with 900+ replies) (in breaking news.)

I doubt it's his ego. It probably had to do with all the years of using drugs and then promising to stop. It's very common. If you remember when he made his announcement, he said that he had went to some quicky detox things before. She probably did not know he was using again, and buying from the maid. Ouch. Unless you've ever lived with an addict, you have no right to condemn her.

Given a few of the state department people I have met in my lifetime. Rush Limbaugh is a genius in world history.

I think you are mistaken.

Rush has a good grasp of the principles of what makes history rather than what is merely written in the books.

It is nice to know you never make a mistake or do anything wrong. I thought it was God who was perfect.
Pardon my mistake.

She's probably got some hefty baggage of her own as well.

I've always wondered about that. Seems to me that when she married Rush, he made some comments that indicated that her kids were living with their father.

Having had personal experience along those lines, I got suspicious.

I love Rush. He was eloquent yesterday.

However, his personal life is a total train wreck. His self-destructive behavoir is like that of 1980s rock star.

One can say no until they are blue in the face. It is very easy to divorce someone against their will. One does not need to have or show grounds anymore in almost every state in country.

but I won't make it easy on you. I don't believe in divorce

You must watch too many old movies. ;-) I think no-fault divorce is in all the states and has been for years, i.e., whoever files for divorce is going to get the divorce -- the only issues to be resolved are custody and property. With a good (there must be a better word here!) lawyer, the unwilling party can probably drag things out, but there's no such thing as contesting a divorce anymore. (There was a moving article in National Review a few months ago on this by a guy -- forget his name -- whose wife is divorcing him -- one of those "she wants to find herself" things; he's heartbroken, but there's no way to fight it.)

I miss Dr. Keyes' programme. When he did "America's Wake Up Call" and made his show "Impeachment Central", it was an absolute necessity. It is a pity he did not continue - that was my absolute favourite.

Impeaching Bubba was sure the highlight of the Clintoon presidency.

Have you ever had the chance to hear Rush's radio program? I think you would like it. He's a very positive influence with an estimated 20 million listeners a week. You might be able to listen on the net. His show is 3 hours daily M-F from 12 noon to 3pm Eastern time(ie. NY time)

I do like Alan Keyes, he's very passionate and a great speaker. He ran for Prez in the 2000 Republican primary. He added a lot of character to the debates they had.(there were 6 or 7 candidates)

I only mentioned RL's ignorance of history because so many times he makes up things that never happened.  Same with the sciences.   The fact that he was never educated and never studied the sciences or the humanities is no crime.  I'm not paying him to get me an advance degree -- plenty of people can do that- I need him to tell me what Peter Jennings his hiding from me.   You won't get that from no university.

Both book learning and street smarts have their place.  RL is not all-knowing, he's not even intelligent, but he sure is smart.
