Quotes From Ronald Reagan's Children During Burial Service

The Associated Press

Remarks from Ronald Reagan's children during burial service: "Ron Reagan adopted me into his family in 1945. I was the chosen one. I was the lucky one. In all these years, he never mentioned that I was adopted either behind my back or in front of me. I was his son, Michael Edward Reagan." - Michael Reagan.

---

"Nearly at the onset of Alzheimer's disease, my father and I would tell each other we loved each other and gave each other a hug. As the years went by and he could no longer verbalize my name, he recognized me as the man who hugged him. So when I would walk into the house, he would be there in his chair, opening up his arms for that hug." - Michael Reagan.

---

"Dad, when I go, I will go to heaven, too. And you and I, and my sister Maureen ... we will dance with a heavenly host of angels before the presence of God, we will do it melanoma and Alzheimer's free." - Michael Reagan.

---

"I know that at his last moment, when he opened his eyes, eyes that had not opened for many, many days, and looked at my mother, he showed us that neither disease nor death can conquer love." - Patti Davis.

---

"He used to say, 'A gentleman always does the kind thing.' And he was a gentleman in every sense of the word - a gentle man. ... Dad treated everyone with the same unfailing courtesy." - Ron Reagan Jr.

---

"He is home now. He is free. In his final letter to the American people, dad wrote, 'I now begin the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life.' This evening, he has arrived. - Ron Reagan Jr.

Because they do not believe in God.

"Wonder why he didn't mention Patti and Ron?"

Uhh,...considering Michael's a bit older than Patti and Ron, I imagine he believes he will die before either of them. Therefore, they wouldn't be in heaven at the time of his death.

Because they're not dead yet.

Using their logic he didn't mention his mother, so there must be some kind of hatred there too.

The correct answer is that Maureen and his father are dead now.

You may be right about the "hatred," but I doubt it. Michael may be a bit boorish at times, but I don't consider him a hater.

Perhaps it was merely an ad-libbed remark by Michael and he simply didn't cover all his bases. Though his speech was obviously heartfelt this night, and not to be too critical (the poor guy just buried his father, afterall), it wasn't very well delivered.

I was pointing out that it was silly to assume he was hating his siblings because he didn't mention them being in heaven, not stating what you claimed in your reply.

wrong.
You may not know the history of these two very small, ignorant spoiled brats.

I know the history rather well, at least what I've read. That being said, though, I'd really like to believe Michael - whom I do like quite a bit - wouldn't purposely give Patti and Ron a back door slam at their father's funeral.
