I prefer regular Coke to regular Pepsi, but much prefer diet Pepsi to diet Coke. Diet Coke has no "bite" for lack of a better word, and it does have an aftertaste. Diet Pepsi probably has an aftertaste too, but I don't notice it.
"Remember the "Arch Deluxe" burger, and the hot-side/cold-side McDLT that had the cheese on the cold side?"
I do, and I loved them. I've spoken to a lot of people who say the same thing. I think they missed the boat when they got rid of that one.
Now, the McLean they sold with seaweed in the burger (to retain moisture) was pretty crappy. Who wants a fat-free hamburger, anyway?
We still get the Arch Deluxe here...or do we?, maybe it's the Big Xtra now, which is very much similar. I liked the Arch Deluxe with Bacon. I like that you can get bacon on any sandwich, now. Bacon makes everything better! Mmmmmaaaauuuggghhh, baaaacccconnn (in best Homer Simpson voice).
I'm with you all the way on bacon! Now, if we could only get them to make the fries with beef fat they way they used to...
Which? Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, or this new stuff?
Diet Pepsi contains aspartame and acesulfame-potassium. I think Diet Coke has the same. Apparently the new stuff contains some aspartame, also.
To clarify, I loved the McDLT. I thought the Arch Deluxe was OK, better than most of their other burgers. The Big Xtra has most of the same stuff on a regular bun and is better, IMO.
Way ditto on the fries cooked in beef fat. In my opinion, beef tallow is the only thing to cook proper fries in, or even McDonald's shoestrings. There's a place I go several times whenever I'm down home that does seafood and chips, and they use beef tallow/shortening in their fryers, and I'm sure that's a major part of why their food is so good, that and the fact that they know how to use them, which seems to be increasingly rare. http://www.johnslunch.com/ - it's a hole in the wall, but it's right some good, let me tell ya boy.
I think the C2 product has a good chance of doing well...
With soft drinks, there is no middle ground. You get either Diet Coke at 0 calories, or regular at 120 cal. It's like going into a restaurant, and finding that you have two choices: a cheeseburger, fries and shake combo, or a diet lunch that consists of a plate of celery.
I've tried to make the switch to Diet Coke for about 3 years now, but just can't do it. I can drink DC with a meal (especially something spicy), but the aftertaste prevents me from drinking DC without food. I stick to water (which is fine, but does nothing for Coca-Cola's bottom line).
The interesting thing is, if you take Diet Coke and mix it with some Regular Coke, the aftertaste is dramatically reduced. It only takes about 1/4 regular Coke to cover up the Diet Coke taste. I can drink this without food to mask the aftertaste, and as you can see, I'm pretty picky. That's all C2 basically is: a half-and-half mixture of the two.
I'll be curious to see if I can drink C2 plain. As it is, I sometimes "reward" myself with a regular Coke, but if I can drink C2 and enjoy it, I can make the switch and cut 60 of those 120 calories out of my diet.

I like the new Diet Coke with lime, too. Almost a Cuba Libre!
Real Coke (outer-space cold) is excellent with Mexican food or HOT Jamaican BBQ...
Re: immediate aftertaste.
If you can find it in your are try DietRite Cola. It uses Splenda and, at least for me, doesn't have that aspertame aftertaste.
Re: C2 it has more carbs and calories than diet coke (go figure). I don't recall the exact number but it's half the carbs and half the calories of regular coke. Don't ask me....
I thought they were going to call it coke lite or was that pepsi? It has half the calories and you don't get the flat diet taste.
Anyways diet drinks suck bigtime but I do drink them mostly but would much rather drink the real thing. Can you imagine having a diet coke slurpee YUCK. The diet coke with lime is a major improvement. Pepsi one isn't so bad either.
If anyone wants a good diet drink. There is diet sierra mist. It tastes almost exactly like regualr sierra mist, but I don't like those lemony limey drinks so it doesn't help me.
It still makes NO sense to me why there is no such thing as Diet Classic Coke. The only reason I can imagine is that they're unable to come up with a formula that tastes good.
A little late to the discussion, but I actually had a can of this yesterday, and it was quite good - I didn't notice much of a difference between that and regular coke. It was definitely not Diet Coke, so I think it's a good marketing move for Coke to do this.
