I am glad that Ronald Reagan has died. Yes, I really am.
I am glad that he has died without pain and suffering, that he has died among his dear wife, his children, and at home. He said good-bye (which origins from "God be with you") to us with the age of 93, and I´m glad that he has lived that long.
Who has ever met Alzheimer patients (my Grandma was one) knows, that it´s a horrible disease, but the pain comes with loneliness. President Reagan was not alone during "the journey which lead him to the sunset of life". And that takes much of the horror of this illness.
Yes, I am glad that Ronald Reagan died this way, instead of being alone or suffering from pains. Thank you Lord, that you have given President Reagan, who was ... no, IS a decent and great man such a pleasant walk-over to the after life.
President Reagan has loved the metapher of the sun when speaking of life. In earlier times, the people believed that the end is at the horizon. When sun sets, the sun dies. We know this is wrong since the modern discovery of America, and that there´s no end at the horizon.
If this metapher is correct, Reagans life is not at an end: we just cannot see him anymore, but that doesn´t mean that this sun shines bright somewhere else!
Rest in peace, Mr. President! Without you, there wouldn´t be many laughing kids in the other half of my country. Without you, I could not vote for the EU parliament with dozens of million fellow-Europeans in the East on Sunday.
Rest in peace!
Some thoughts about today´s funeral ceremony of President Reagan.
I'm glad he died while Bush was in office
I know I'll see him again.
You mean because of the touching ceremonies? Indeed, one couldn´t pay respect to a person a better way!
You know, I have had that exact same thought. THe pain of The Nameless One sullying Reagan's memory.... brr-r-r-r-r-r.
Dan
"brr-r-r-r-r-r."
That's a chill wind that Tim Robbins would have celebrated. Fortunately, America was spared that travesty.
Notice the tribute to Reagan under "Articles" on new webb site, "www.nationalmorality.com".
Amen!
Ronald Reagan and my father introduced me to conservative thought after I cast my very first Presidential ballot...for Jimmy Carter.
I can't say I am glad that President Reagan and my father are gone, yet I do rejoice in the knowledge that they both are now in perfect mind and body. I grieve over the years and quality of life Alzheimer's stole from them and is stealing from countless others.
I've been watching all the coverage, and will continue to. Alot of tears. My heart and prayers go out to Mrs. Reagan and the children. Even when you expect and rejoice in the passing of a loved one, it is still harder then you think it's going to be to lose a parent or a spouse. My mom is so lonely without daddy and I miss him terribly. I do continue to thank God for giving me 43 years with him... my Husband lost both of his parents by the time he was 36. I also thank God that we had the opportunity to know President Reagan as our leader.... what a difference he made!
We also have lost Ray Charles...a great musician. Who can forget his redition of God Bless America...President Reagan's favorite song.
Thanks for your thoughts and your kindness at a time when America's suffered an enormous loss. The world was so lucky RR lived when he did, and Americans are proud beyond words that he was ours.
I have to agree ... when a friend of mine lost his youngest son to Adreno-Leukodystrophy, Mrs. Marauder called it a "sad relief."
So it is with our beloved Gipper. Time catches up with all of us, but it had a hell of a time catching up with him.
This is so true!
My mom is so lonely without daddy and I miss him terribly.
Prayers to your Mum and your family, I´m sure your Dad as well as President Reagan would not want you all to be sad. They surely loved life, and wished no more that you remember them in a thankful, respectful but also satisfied mood.
It's interesting to remember that when Washington died, small towns all over the country held mock funerals so people could deal with their overwhelming grief and the country could go on. Now we have computers, the internet, 24 hour cable TV, so the news is instant. I do think that if Nancy Reagan had asked that his casket be brought back to California by train, millions would line up along the tracks. But we have airplanes and AirForce One, so he's home in four or five hours.
Sorry about the abrupt end to my post. My Siamese cat wanted to type.
You´re welcome. The announcement of RR´s death came surprising for me, too.
We should let us lead from the example of this great man, who was spreading his optimism, his positive charcter, full of determination and power for the good in the world!
I understand your sentiment. I appreciate it too.
I still don't like the title. It is in very poor taste.
I'm glad Clinton was not pResident when Reagan died.
I have been wondering what crisis must be occuring in Heaven if God requires the services of Ronald Reagan.
His passing reminds us of what he meant to all of us.
