LIVE THREAD--Reagan State Funeral Ceremony: Lying in State at the Rotunda (6/11/04)
Source?
Harding was from Ohio...
Thanks!!! CSPAN1 or CSPAN2?
Have you been to bed yet?...I got a couple hours of sleep.
Yea, They have to cover the prisoner abuse stories - what was it - 28 days straight?
Iran-Contra is a problem for the liberals because it was a clever idea that worked brilliantly. They never get over RR's record of mind-boggling victories. What can they put up against that? Carter/gas lines/malaise/hostages? Clinton ad nauseum? Lamb on C-Span is reading Gorby's interview printed in the NYTimes. Gorby still thinks he was the reason the Cold War ended without a shot being fired. I wish they'd keep the picture on the Rotunda. I can turn the sound off and avoid listening to RAT callers carping about RR for one specious reason or another.
I've been watching on 1---right now they're interviewing callers....at the moment, the other channel (2) is covering a committee.
Via TV, CSPAN has been the best. Very little commentary, and none during any events.
Via Web, CBS webcast has been excellent most of the time. Absolutely no commentary and no banners or logos. Sometimes the image is a bit pixelized, but for high speed internet, usually pretty good. [It also runs about 5 second behind the CSPAN feed. They both seem to be using 'pool cameras.'
c-span caller...Reagan responsible for 911.....etc...
I asked this on another thread last night, no one must have known the answer. Maybe someone here knows.
Question 1:
Common sense says the duties of the Secret Service Agents assigned to President Reagan ended when President Reagan passed.
I am curious...does an agent stay on duty? I mean in the sense of either protecting the remains of the President until burial or out of a tradition of respect and honor?
I am not talking about the agents who will continue to protect Mrs. Reagan.
Next Question:
Are the arms carried by the Honor Guard loaded?
CBS feed is great, getting DirectX captures with Hypersnap
The KKK has alwas been just as strong in the North as the South. The Entire Indiana General Assembly was controled by the KKK for awhile, all through elections.
Don't know about the agents but the honor guard's weapon is not loaded...they are ceremonial.
Yes. Turned in about 11:30 CDT and woke up at 5:20.
I like the CBS Webfeed and most of the time, CSPAN. No talk; just the natural sounds.

Welcome to the americanpresidents.org Chat with Dr. Robert Rupp, Associate Professor of History at West Virginia Wesleyan College, and producer of video documentaries on President Warren G. Harding. This Online Chat took place LIVE on September 20, 1999.
jae: Much has been made of a possible relationship between Harding and the KKK. What do you make of this?
Robert Rupp: True fabridcation-as talked about on C-SPAN today there was a rumor floated by KKK that he was a member. He was not-and in fact was the first president to call for fair treatment of Afican-Americans when he spoke on southern soil. Also remember Afican Americans were a key voting block for the Republican party at this time. Also he had special day set aside during his campaign when a group from Indiana came to visit.
Thanks so much. I have to tape it because I'll be working, and I've been worried about ending up with lousy coverage.
Amazing how ignorant people can be.
Thanking you in advance for all of your hard work, especially today....kisses.
