Wondering the exact same thing. Who gave the Imam the invite, and why?
He represents a major religion, observed by many American citizens.
American citizens.
Nancy Reagan approved all ceremonials, so it is likely her wish that the imam be included.
Probably because there are millions of Americans who are Muslims. Contrary to some freepers, we aren't at war with all Muslims. Ever hear of Turkey?
Events such as these are always ecumenical with representatives of all the local major religions. Why are there priests and a rabbi? Would you exclude them too? Ronald Reagan was President to us all, regardless of our religion. We are at war with terrorism, not Islam. It is unfortunate that it seems hard to differentiate the two at times, but be assured, they are different.
As a Christian, how do you witness to others if you won't have anything to do with them? We're supposed to go out and baptise all nations... kind of hard to do if we go out of our way to crap on even the moderates of other faiths, don't you think?
The National Cathedral is a world symbol of our country's Freedom Of Religion, therefore, Islam is represented. The Cathedral is a multidenominational cathedral.
Such a Reagen-esque touch at the end.
