BUCKLE SEAT BELTS.
or
dig deeper.
I'd be happy to go back and collect all the reports we have here and put them together.
Is anyone here a member at TB2000 that could then post it to dragonslayers thread? I requested to join about a month ago and haven't heard back from them yet.
I think they would be interested and may be able to add additional reports.
I worry a bit about getting too off topic with this, possibly having someone here to post reports over at TB2000 would be a good way to go.
Glad you have delurked claimtofame!
That was a great report with all the good details. Could you also ask around to verify that it wasn't in fact a transformer? Possibly call the local police and see what they found out?
I think Velveeta had a similar experience - I think somewhere in California Also, there was that strange occurrence in Seattle last week. Did they ever figure out what that flash of light was?
Thanks very much ricky!!
I don't want to get off topic too far either, but I'm not entirely sure these are all meteor impacts. They could be, but this bears looking to a bit deeper IMHO.
Thanks again. Looking forward to the post...

I'm not claiming it was from space. It sounded like a sonic boom or a lighting strike no farther than 15-20 feet (I've experienced them both several times).
I'll ask my neighbors when I get home what they know.
. . ."t minus four days". . .
I just drove to LA and back and only noticed one unusual incident. At the truck scales westbound I-10 there was a truck stopped before going into the scales with about 8 CHP cars surrounding it. Haven't checked the news here, but will follow up if I hear anything.
PC CR@P I'm getting tired of it!!! It won't end until they kill twice that of 9-11 or more. We never learn.
Ok, here's my compilation. If we do find someone that could post this at TB2000 would all that have made these reports give permission to have this posted over there?
I have slightly edited these to give some continuity and added somer remarks in parenthesis to summarize questions posted from other freepers.
Please note: THESE ARE ALL FREEPER REPORTS NOT THE METEOR REPORTS THAT HAVE BEEN IN THE NEWS!
6-09-04 Velveeta reported from NE Illinois, near Gurnee, almost to the Wisconsin border:
Shortly after my post to you last night, with my youngest blissfully sleeping and my eldest beside me discussing President Reagan, a large "blast" literally shook my house. I ran to the window and saw a plume of smoke rise within 1/2 mile of my house. As I ran outside, I wondered...."is this when I just take a deep breath?"
Neighbors were all outside, several of us having called emergency, many more getting in their cars to find out what "it" was. The cops drove through and couldn't find a thing. Nothing new this morning.
There were several of us who hopped in our cars and couldn't find anything. The police drove through and couldn't find a thing. My daughter and I *did* see a plume of smoke rise from the direction of the blast. There was no flash, no fire and the plume disappeared within about 90 seconds. It was a very localized sounding blast and my house SHOOK for a solid 3 seconds. At first, I thought the neighbor's house across the lake blew up. These descriptions sound identical. Weird
6-11-04 Claimtofame reported from South Florida near Wellington/West Palm Beach:
Last Friday (6/11) in the early morning around 1:30AM we heard a very loud boom with a brief flash of light. I was on the computer (freerepublic)and my husband and children were sleeping. The boom woke up everyone in the house. Just as my husband and I were dressing to go outside and take a look around we heard another very loud boom just like the first one and they were about 5 minutes apart. We went outside and our Thoroughbred horses were running around the paddock very frightened. We saw a few of our neighbors outside of their homes doing the same as we were. A few minutes later we heard sirens that seemed to stop a mile or so away. Then a police helicopter with a big search light started scanning our area. After about a half an hour it left. We went back inside and did not witness anything else out of the ordinary.
The boom sounded like what a very large transformer blowing out would if you were nearby. However there was no disruption to our power in the neighborhood. My husband said he thought it could have been a sonic type boom. We did not see anything in the news about it. We live in South Florida near Wellington/West Palm Beach.
6-12-04 Oorang reported from Trout Lake, WA which is in Klickatat County right next to Skamania County. That is about 100 miles east of Portland, OR; 25 miles north of the Columbia River Gorge:
Does anyone know of a website, probably a gov. site?, that lists metorite strikes? I think one came through, or landed, near us last night. My husband searched all local news sites this morning and cannot find any reports. Local news for us is Portland, OR which is actually 100 miles away. Tell me what you think, here is what happened:
Saturday night, 9:35 pm, we were both on our computers (laptops, the only way to go :-)). There was a loud boom. My instant reaction was a gunshot. We live in the sticks so gun shot is not unusual, except this was so loud it would have to be a .50 caliber, which would be unusual for that time of the evening. My husbands feet were on the floor and he said he felt the vibration and he didn't think it was shooting (I trust him on this, he is a firearm expert).
We did not see any lights in the sky. Second thought was someone's house blew up (the boom was that loud). We went outside, did not see any flames or smell smoke. Took a brief drive and did not see anything. We were up for another couple of hours and there were no sirens so we ruled out the exploding house explanation.
I can't think of anything other than a meteor. Any ideas? I'd really like to know what it was as it was most unusual. Thanks for any input or ideas.
(anybody else hear or see it?)
I just called the County sheriff's to ask if they knew what it was. Their office is about 45 miles from us (in the opposite direction of the "boom") and they don't patrol my neck of the woods in the evening. They had no clue, no reports to them of anything. I called a couple of folks in the valley and they said "yeah I heard it, it was real loud". But, no one knew what it was.
(and)
One person I called is about 1/2 mile away and his 14 year old son, who was outside, saw a flash to the west. The other is about 2 miles away and was inside, didn't see anything.
(Could it have been dynamite blasting stumps?)
My husband used to do that so I am familiar with what you are talking about. Anymore, in this state, it requires lots of paperwork and licenses to obtain the materials to blow up big tree stumps. That is usually done for building roads, none of which is being done around here right now. Smaller stumps are just dug out with a back hoe. Also, being at the base of a dormant volcano this valley is very rocky. Consequently you have to be very careful when blowing things up so you don't have rocks flying! Also, the boom was at 9:35 in the evening. Not prime stump blowing time.
6-12-04 Davey Crockett reported from the far western point of North Carolina. 15 min. from Tenn. or Ga.:
I wasn't going to post this but Yesterday bumming around a flea market and the same thing happened.
Sounded like shotgun (my exact thought was .50 ha ha ha) Smart minds think alike! But much louder my next thought was cannon. It was daylight so no flash.
Maybe we are just noticing more;) yeah right
One more thing we have XM radio and last night we were losing reception so bad we couldn't even listen to it.HHUUUMMMMMMMMMM
(was it a sonic boom from a plane?)
Not in my case I have heard sonic booms before not the exact same sound. This seemed slower if that makes sense!Wondering:)
6-14-04 bored at work reported from Pewaukee WI. Just north of Waukesha:
I can add to that. Last night at 2:38 am (according to my clock)there was an explosion, KABOOOOM, outside of my window. Literally made me jump right out of my sleep. It was so loud that it set off my car alarm. By the time I woke up and shut off the alarm I'm sure the whole neighborhood was awake. . .No storm. . .No fire. . .No smoke. . .No sirens. . .Nothing but silence.
.
OOps, sorry, i left this last post you made out but saved it to the file on my computer.
I've hesitated posting about "my boom" because it happened before the latest reportings. One month ago, during broad daylight, clear skies above, my parents and I heard a super loud explosion or boom that really rattled the house and knocked some my wall hangings askew. Our nearest neighbors (about a mile away) heard the same thing. It was NOT a sonic boom. My Dad's retired Air Force and I've spent many years around Air bases and we know the difference. We live in a heavily forested and mountainous area, and no one saw a thing.
It was strange.....and no explanation.
Black Hills of South Dakota
Thanks!
I'll add it, do you have an approx date and time of day?
you folks should move to NY - its quiet here based on what I'm reading from you!
