LIVE THREAD: Pres. Bush pays respects and calls on Mrs. Reagan

Posted on 06/10/2004 2:28:07 PM PDT by alisasny

Alot of dignataries are now showing up to pay respects. McCain, Guiliani, Gorby, Karzai, etc.

Cspan has live coverage. Bush expected at 7 but could be earlier? He is then going to visit with Mrs. Reagan.

Guard changes about every half hour at .28 and .58 of the hour. One is going on right now.

No guesses on totals. Metro set a record yesterday. Over 850,000 fares compared to the old record of about 811,000 for Bill Clinton's first inauguration. The average weekday ridership is about 680,000.

Last night they were moving 3,000 per hour. They've been at 5,000 per hour since this morning. If they push it a little more maybe 200,000 people or more will be able to pay their respects at the Capitol.

I'm glad you found the pictures. There was a terseness about the Bushes' visit. From the expression on his face, I think (and so do others here) that GW was fighting off an emotional moment. The eulogy he delivers tomorrow may be tough for him at various levels. I would think that C-Span will reshow their visit, although it might be much later.

I don't know if anyone has answered your question, but I remember one of the media outlets saying that Ford probably wouldn't even make the service on friday because he's not in very good health. Betty Ford is expected to attend the service.

As for Jimmy Carter, I don't think he's made it through the line. But I could be wrong.

Great news.

I have one comment make...the picture of Bush at Reagan's casket that appears right now on Drudge will be famous. Look at the composition of the Continental Congress portrait and also the crowd...a collection of military men and regular Americans.

It glows.

LOLOLOLOL!!!!! And people will be leaving bouquets of cigars!! Sad, the difference, isn't it?

The other day I was in southern Arkansas and saw an old man driving an old El Camino and wondered to myself if that could be the old car Clinton was bragging about. They are the ugliest of vehicles.

thank you for the picture of Japanese Prime Minister signing the guestbook. I have the exact photo of Ronald Reagan. While I was in the Army Reserve in 1989, I asked if I can have the photo of Ronald Reagan on the wall. President George H Bush was sworn in and the reserve unit had yet to update the chain of command photos. The Sergeant Major said yes. I have cherished that photo eversince, and kinda knew that it special. I think it is the official military photo.

Bob Dole said today about the great outpouring from the public that "once again Reagan was underestimated."

That's because they won't open their opens to see what is right in front of their faces

He was a great man and a great president .. who was well loved and well respected
