No one has mentioned what I think is Ray's most beautiful, saddest song. One wonders if it has some autobiographical meaning.

You Don't Know Me
Ray Charles
(C. Walker/E. Arnold), Unichappell Music, BMI

You give your hand to me
And then you say hello
I can hardly speak
My heart is beating so
And anyone can tell
You think you know me well
But you don't know me

Oh you don't know the one
That thinks of you at night
Who longs to kiss your lips
And yearns to squeeze you tight
No I'm just a friend
That's all I've ever been
You just don't know me

I never knew the art of making love
Though my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by
The chance that you might love me too

You give your hand to me
And then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away
Beside the lucky guy
You'll never, never know
The one who loves you so
You just don't know me

I never knew the art of making love
Though my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by
The chance that you might love me too

You give your hand to me
And then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away
Beside the lucky guy
Who'll never, never know
The one who loves you so
You just don't know me

You'll never, ever know
mmmm, cause you just don't know me

Now you know the Music Man was a con artist, and I'm the real thing. So call me whatever you like. Besides, I Can't Stop Loving You

Ray Charles - may you rest in peace.

That's sad news. His rendition of "America the Beatiful" is an American treasure. A great talent.

They should play it on loudspeakers tomorrow at the end of the service tomorrow, to honor him, and of course to enrage the Left as well.

Ray and Willie singin 7 Spanish Angels gives me chills every time.

When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared (the way Ray sings the word throne in the next line) there was thunder from the throooone.....and seven spanish angels, took another angel home.

Awesome.

And, he produced all kinds of music. A very rare talent.

Uh, Cagey, that's not Brother Ray you're referring to in post 84. That's the *other* Ray Charles, AKA Charles Raymond Offenberg, born in 1918 in Chicago, who became an arranger/conductor for TV variety shows such as Perry Como's and Glen Campbell's. He won two Emmys. Read all about it on page 116 of Joel Whitburn's Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits (6th ed., 1996). Still, I like "Love Me With All Your Heart."

Just pointing something out...

Aaaaah, a sad ping, indeed. Gosh, I went to a charity event not too many years ago and he was the entertainment. He was just wonderful. He has been around and a big star for as long as I can remember.

Just pointing something out...

Actually, I'm glad you did.

I (and hopefully millions of others for my ego's sake) have always thought it was this Ray Charles who produced the Ray Charles Singers. You've just corrected something I thought was true for the last thirty five years or so. I mean "Love Me With All Your Heart" was a top 40 pop song and I never would have thought there was another "Ray Charles" who could do that!
