Too much sadness this week.
Favorite songs: "America the Beautiful" and "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry"
Favorite album: "Sweet & Sour Tears"
Fare thee well, Ray.

My husband and I are professional musicians, and my husband has had the honor of gigging in Ray Charles' band. We always laugh about how in rehearsals, Ray repeatedly chewed out the trombone players for not playing a part that wasn't written in the chart. Of course, he didn't know it wasn't there - he couldn't see the chart to know one way or the other. But that didn't stop him from throwing a fit about it. LOL
RIP, Ray...you are a legend.
Ray was my Mom's favorite, and so was my favorite too. All my little friends were squealing about the Beatles, but I was a Ray Charles fan no matter what!
I loved his way with some of the standards:
"Love Walked In" (gives me goosebumps just thinking of it)
"I'll Be Seeing You"
"Baby It's Cold Outside"
and
"Every Time We Say Goodbye"
My Mom is now dying of cancer. I will play that song at her last party.
Every time we say goodbye
I die a little
Every time we say goodbye
I wonder why a little
Why the gods above me
Who must be in the know
Think so little of me
They allow you to go
When you're near, there's such an air
of Spring about it
I can hear a lark somewhere
Begin to sing about it
There's no love-song finer
But how strange the change
from major to minor
Every time we say goodbye.
What in the world are the Raylettes to do now?
God bless you Ray Charles. We are so much richer for having known you.
R.I.P.
7 Spanish Angels with Willie was one
Off topic, but is your tagline an actual quote?
How sad. He was one of the greats.
Ray's version of "I Can't Stop Living You" breaks my heart every time I hear it.
Thanks. I thought I'd read every word Steyn has written, but I didn't get pinged to that one.
I have to admit that Maxine Waters makes the best argument for the other side I've heard yet.
Thank you, Ray. I love ya' bro.
RIP Ray. I'll hear you one day.
The angel choir just got a LOT better.
If tragedy comes in 3s, my guess is a sports icon may go...
Saw Ray (and the Rayettes) at Musickfest in Bethlehem, PA (can it be 15 years ago?)
He played "Georgia" just as the sun was setting. One of the best moments in my life.
"No one sang 'Ruby'; 'Georgia'; or especially, 'America the Beautiful' like he did.
Yep. I remember when I heard Willie Nelson singing "Georgia on My Mind," I screamed. By law, no one should be allowed to do that song except Ray."
Actually, The Band did a great version of this song with Richard Manuel singing. That being said, it's a sad day when Ray Charles is silenced.
Ray Charles was a fantastic musician and a gentleman. My condolences to his family.
