Quite right. France operates under the Napoleonic code, which is very different from British common law. For instance, you are presumed guilty unless you can prove yourself innocent.

Contrary to the opinion of many Frogs, Napoleon was not a benefactor of mankind.

How true. Just think: this is the country most revered (after Viet Nam) by John Kerry. He went to boarding school there and his first cousin ran for president under the Green party.
