WASHINGTON — Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez (search), commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, has asked investigators to take the Abu Ghraib (search) prison abuse probe to the top of the chain of command — and that means to Sanchez himself, senior Defense officials have told Fox News. Sanchez has asked the Pentagon to appoint a senior investigating general who outranks him, and thus would be authorized to push the probe to the highest rungs of the command ladder, according to the officials.

IMHO LTG Sanchez is a stand up guy. I met him several times and interviewed him as well. I think he realizes that unless he is investigated in this mess there will always be "questions" and could possibly harm his chances of advancement to the 4-Star rank. Plus it's a shrewed move to take the heat off of the White House and the calls for this stupid man-made "scandal" to be investigated "to the top".

I would rather just let the whole thing pass. Some scumbag had panties on his head. Get over it.

Not talking to you, just in general.

I understand and I agree to a point. But I also see what I think LTG Sanchez is trying to do here and that is quite honorable. It proves that a) He understands something that BG Karpinski doesn't and that is what it takes to be and what the responsibilities are of being a General Officer and b) that he's not a "Clinton General". For a definition of what a "Clinton General" is...see BG Janice Karpinski.

He's trying to do the right thing. But the whole issue is political nonsense.

Sounds like Sanchez is confident in his chain of command, and he has a clear view from where he sits..

Great news...of course the headline is biased bs again...

re #2

I'm with ya.. This crap is nada compared to what Americans have endured at the hands of Islam. Personally, I would think the Arab world would be more upset with American media portraying these "so-called abused prisoners" as p*ssies over the "hardcore" they wish they could be. Let's face facts, they ( the bad guys ) are reduced to road side bombs and IED form of combat. They are no match for our regular Military, let alone our Special Forces. In plain english, they are no match. Guerilla? Hardly. Neusance, absolutley.

And the bolder the CITEZENS of Iraq become with their new founded freedom, the less we will see of the militant IED, road side bomb crap. The Iraqi's will make quick haste of suspected insurgents.

this sounds very suspiciously like a clintonista general getting ready for his coupe....

....or one hell of a STUPID plan by the Bush team (bush-league would be more accurate if this is their idea!)

Give the left-wing radicals all the publicity and air time to drag this out even more. There is NO REASON to go past that stupid general that was supposed to be in charge of the prison. anything past that point is political crap.

Have to respectfully disagree. If anything Sanchez is trying to keep a dirty smear off of his career record and by doing so will end up helping the White House. It will shut up the idiot Libs and take another bullet out of their gun for the upcoming election.

I disagree.

Sanchez knows he has nothing to fear, since he's done nothing wrong.

He just demonstrated true leadership abilities.

Don't be surprised if we are hearing about his career for many years to come.

Maybe a little "trust, but verify"; as a wise man who recently died, once said!
