Thank you, too, for the captures! :)
Well, I'm watching it all over again on c-span and it is even better now that I know more of the ceremony. Red uniforms...Marine Band.
I'd like to add this old Irish prayer here, in honor of this son of Irish descendants.
An Irish Blessing
May the blessing of Light be on you, light without and light within.
May the blessed sunlight shine upon you and warm your heart 'till it glows like a great peat fire, so that the stranger may come and warm himself at it, and also a friend.
And may the light shine out of the two eyes of you like a candle set in two windows of a house, bidding the wanderer to come in out of the storm.
And may the blessing of the rain be on you -- the soft sweet rain.
May it fall upon your spirit so that all the little flowers may spring up and shed their sweetness on the air.
And may the blessing of the Great Rains be on you.
May they beat upon your spirit and wash it fair and clean, and leave there many a shining pool where the blue of heaven shines reflected -- and sometimes a star.
And may the blessing of the Earth be on you -- the great round earth.
May the earth be soft under you when you lay upon it, tired at the end of the day, and may it rest easy over you when at last you lay out under it.
May it rest so lightly over you that your soul may be quickly through it, and up, and off, and on its way to God.
The Marine Corps Band, IIRC.
Right back at ya, cgk!
"If we used the formula that the rats use for crowd estimates there are over 10 million on hand for the funeral procession."
What an insightful reply! Watching all this from within 10 minutes of Constitution Avenue for over 40 years it has become obvious that anything with the word "Jesus" in it or that is not backed by "liberal" correctness can only draw the fewest people.
The horse, now named Sgt. York is a 13-year-old horse who used to race at Freehold and Yonkers Raceways in the mid-90's. He is discribed as having a "good demeanor" and being "unflappable" which is the reason why he was picked
Reagan funeral role for former N.J. pacer
I think the horse passed anger management class. So did Reagan.
This outpouring of gratitude and respect is really quite remarkable. He has been out of office for about 15 years, out of the public eye for the better part of the last 10 years but the public has not forgotten him. Thats pretty unusual for a nation that our enemies believe has the attention span of a gnat.
I am too. And with the kids in bed I can pay more attention. Don't have to explain everything.
Mo, I thought of THIS...the Euros
who hated Reagan are seeing these
crowds, & all this honor, on CNN,
the BBC & Sky News. Also W hosting
the G-8 at Sea Island.
I was yelling at the TV, saying,
"See, we Americans don't care what
you think of our Presidents!!!"
(Like the Euros can hear me...)
Let'em .. but there were A WHOLE LOT of folks that were there today .. something the media cannot hide
The people there will tell two friends ... who will tell two friends and etc.
The bleeping media/press couldn't put a lid on this story no matter how they try
WE THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN
You should see his "home" on the Ft. Meyer base.
Those horses are beautiful, hard working and well cared for animals.
Whoever I was listening to on I think msnbc said the horse was named Black Jack Pershing (!).
I had to remind the talking head on tv that that was the name of the General that the horse was named after, and the horse itself was named only Black Jack!
.....and from where I'm sitting, it was LOUD AND CLEAR!
Was the photographer David Hume Kennerly?
&&&&
Yes, thanks. He is very interesting to listen to when he describes the stories behind his photos.
This afternoon FOX News interviewed a guy from Colorado who came specifically and only for the public viewing. He was there for the procession, but he really came to town to pay his respects during the public viewing. You could tell he was Republican to the bone. He had a Bush hat on, a GOP and American flag pins on his lapel and a "Colorado Is Reagan Country" poster he held up to the camera.
Excellent point.
I guess we're just not as stupid as our enemies, foreign and domestic, think we are.
I had just come into the house from mowing the yard when I heard that the Capitol was being evacuated, and they said the plane was a VIP plane, and the first thing that came to mind was "Bill Clinton is trying to horde in on the festivities."
