Jeeze, I hope security in and around Washington DC is as tight as is being reported. So many people will be there Friday.

In most cases, the likely location of the attacks was Iraq, he saidThat's silly. How would there possibly be chemical weapons in Iraq? As if!

This stuff sounds like the Patriot Act. Wait, we can't use the Patriot Act to protect us. That is not fair. That is unconstitutional. Let them gas us. That works.

Being an almost brand-new member, I think I ought to contribute a sort of "security deposit" to the common kettle: [I tried to post it as a thread and got stuck in the computer - so I'm posting it as a reply on this thread].
Decades ago in USSR I went through ROTC type training on bio/chemical defense. More recently, in the USA, during anthrax attacks, people exhibited strong interest in what they could do for self-protection using commonly available materials, and were writing down the recipes I still remembered. Considering this information to be of public benefit and interest (hope no one will really need it), I repeat it here:
Besides using personal protection equipment (gas mask, gloves, respirator):
In case of nerve gas contamination one should use a basic amine solution (like ethanolamine) in water, ca. 5-10%,- to apply it to the exposed surfaces, and to rub these surfaces with it. As ethanolamine is somewhat uncommon, regular ammonia solution from hardware store could be used instead (it smells very strongly, is 28% and has to be diluted to ca. 5%). If one is to pour concentrated ammonia on the floor of a contaminated room, close the doors and get out of there as fast as possible - by the time ammonia dissipates the nerve gas would be neutralized.
In case of biological/VX contamination one uses chloramine solution (or even household bleach, diluted maybe 1:1 with water) in the same fashion. If the surface to be rubbed with these deactivating solutions is human skin, then, after decent interval after treatment, it is to be rinsed with clean water. Pouring concentrated bleach in open glass/ceramic pan and leaving it on the floor of a closed room would stink the room with chlorine and provide a poor man version of chlorine dioxide treatment they did in Senate building.
Under no conditions should one mix together these 2 recipes mentioned, so one would need external information on the nature of likely threat. The recipes are not foolproof, but were considered sufficient for protection under field conditions.

Hmmmm, an attractive Arab-looking woman (dressed in fashionable-but-casual Western clothes) got on my bus today at the entrance to the downtown Seattle bus tunnel. She rode for two stops, then got off - still in the tunnel - and sat down on a bench to wait for another bus. Kind of unusual behavior . . . (no, I don't think she was a terrorist, but when terrorists strike, it will probably be preceded by slightly unusual behavior like this woman exhibited)

In most cases, the likely location of the attacks was Iraq, he said. The prosecutor gave no further details.Like flies to flypaper ...
