A BILL
To provide for a 10-year extension of the assault weapons ban.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the `Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act of 2004'.
SEC. 2. 10-YEAR EXTENSION OF ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN.
Section 110105 of the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act (18 U.S.C. 921 note) is amended to read as follows:
`SEC. 110105. SUNSET PROVISION.
`This subtitle and the amendments made by this subtitle are repealed September 13, 2014.'.

I don't know the answer. What I would like to see is this rotten unconstitutional gun ban 'bite the dust'. That way, we can all fool ourselves that there is some liberty left in this once great experiment. At least we don't have to prepare for possible consequences of a second civil war. Its clear that the Constitution no longer plays a role in the crafting of legislation; a lot of unconstitutional law stands on the books because of corrupt courts, but more so because the armed citizenry has been too content, too fat, and too happy with the standard of living to actually think that maybe the ballot box is no longer a "free and unfettered exercise" in (little "d")democracy.
Because the courts have failed miserably in their first and only duty, i.e. to act as a "check and balance" against ambitious politicians, and, thus to safeguard the liberty of the Constitution by limiting government authority, there really is no other alternative but to dissolve the government and, "That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
I don't think that the fat and lazy citizenry (myself included) has the stomach to do what it takes to restore liberty. Too many people are "on the take" from the tax trough. We all have a vested interest in our pensions and a piece of the Social Security pie. There is always the unexpected, of course.....
Yeah, but I still would go after all the dim Senators that are up in 2004. If this is to be defeated, you can never do to little.
The R's on the list of sponsors are a lost cause. Apply pressure where you are likely to get maximum return.

The Senate nor the House has been given any authority to tamper with the Bill of Rights. It is off limits for them.
Recently, Senator Feinstein introduced S.2498. This is an "Assault Weapons" ban extension. This bill will NOT pass. It is outside the federal mandate as stipulated quite clearly in the Bill of Rights. Even the mythological incorporation doctrine currently en vogue in the courts defines the restrictive clauses in the BoR as applying to the Federal Government. Ergo, you have no power, nor right, nor mandate to ban ANY type of firearm. Even under the equally fallacious "commerce clause" would still hold true. A separate issue would be the NFA of '34 and the GCA of '68 that are untested in front of the USSC, but to any objective standard also violate the Second Amendment prohibition on Federal legislation.
This is a "litmus test" issue for your core conservative voters. Further erosion of our Second Amendment Rights is neither welcome, nor even legal via a strict constructionist, or even just plain honest, viewpoint.
Please down this bill and all others like it. If you want our conservative vote, there really is no other option.

What a cast of pathetic scum. "Worst of the worst" is just about perfect. I'd call that list a damm good argument AGAINST elections, if I were a bit more authoritarian.
When both parties press for, and the corrupt courts uphold, unconstitutional laws, then its time to reconsider just who the hell the real Americans are.....and ask the question "just what the hell did the Founders mean by limited government? The answer to the latter can be found in the Bill of Rights: "shall not be infringed" is as clear as any words in the English language.
Yet, the damn Federal Appellate Court system has never overturned one damn gun law based on the clear and unambiguous words of the 2nd. Furthermore, every Circuit Court except the 5th has ruled that the 2nd refers to an illogical and untenable "collective right" of the government to arm - the government! Even the US SC (whom I no longer trust to do the right thing) refused (probably a good thing considering the makeup of the present SC) to hear the Silviera appeal, and, thus, allowed 20% of the nation's citizens to lose their gun rights based on the rotten commie 9th Circuit's decision. For me, the sunsetting (or renewal)of this rotten ban will mark a turning point. If the former, I will retain some faith that there is still hope for the Republic; if the latter, I will take a long hard look at not just the RATs, but of the entire political spectrum. A renewal of this ban will be the end of my financial support of the Republican Party for starters.

What I really wanted to say would have probably gotten me a visit from the Secret Service.
Most of them pretend to be moderates or conservatives in order to get elected and also vote moderate when it might cost them an election to do otherwise.
When it comes right down to it, for some reason of which I have no idea why, nearly all politicians are radical to extremely radical leftists. The fact that most of them can be forced to pretend some type of conservatism shows the country is not completely lost but that time is fast approaching.
The key word in that sentence is "yet".
We'll see how this goes.
