WASHINGTON (AP) Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, flying to California on Tuesday to attend graduation ceremonies for his daughter, was considering paying his respects to Ronald Reagan as the former president's body lay in repose at his presidential library.Kerry suspended public campaign events this week in honor of Reagan, who died Saturday.
Kerry and his aides were considering a visit Tuesday afternoon, the campaign said. The period in which Reagan will lie in repose at the library in Simi Valley, a community northwest of Los Angeles, was scheduled to end Tuesday evening.
Reagan's death has shifted attention from the campaign to national mourning and commemorations of his historical and political legacy.
Kerry planned to attend the state funeral for Reagan on Friday at Washington's National Cathedral.
Kerry's daughter, Alexandra, is graduating from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. He planned to attend the ceremony and a screening of her short film, "The Last Full Measure," which tells the story of a 9-year-old girl and her father's difficult return home from the Vietnam War.
Kerry is a decorated Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. His daughter has said the film is not autobiographical.
And his daughter has to remind us, in a not-so-subtle-way, that Kerry served in VietNam.
This is news? He should pay his final respects by shutting up and behaving like a real human being for once.
Hey he better get in line before 3 pm or forget it.
Yeah right...King Kerry doesn't wait in lines!!!
The people should gather around the building and BLOCK/PREVENT THIS DESECRATION AND PERVERSION OF THE REAGAN FAMILY GRIEF!.......................
I have no problem with Kerry going to view Reagan at the library. As long as his sorry ass gets in line and waits many hours like the rest of those mourning Reagan.
As long as you're in line by 3 PM, Senator, you'll be fine.
Those taxpaying citizen SOB's are delaying King Kerry's rightful place in line! (sarcasm button on)
Well, he certainly has the face for mourning....
For Kerry .. the King of photo ops??
Of course not
But, as always, he may change his mind.
I'm fine with this as long as he has to wait in line like the rest of the people.
Reagan may be dead, but he will never be as stiff as Kerry.
I'm glad that military honor guard is there to stop him from urinating on it.
Perhaps he can get a photo-op with both the casket and a crucifix in view?
I agree. However there is a little tiny evil bit of me who wishes he barges in and makes a bigger fool of himself.
He is certainly a better campaigner, even in death.
I can just imagine the scene: "Out of my way, let me through! Do you know who I am? I served in Viet Nam, you know!"
What the hell is there to consider?
After all, any man who would bring his daughter with him to purchase a jock strap is one sick jerk.
