How many Freepers have intentions of heading to Washington this week?
A friend and I were planning on making the drive down from Pennsylvania, to see the beginning of the Prcocessional. However, I'm a bit worried about access in and out of the city.
Anybody want to opine as to where a good spot to go would be? The casket will be placed on the cassion at 16th and Constitution on Wednesday at 6:00 P.M. EDT. for the trip to the Capitol. Not sure if it would be better to be there atthe beginning or the end of the route.
My only advice would be to park a out of the beltway Metro station and take the subway in.
I wonder why there isn't a funeral train crossing the continent. We can't all go to DC.
That would have been a neat idea. As it is, he's not getting to his final resting place til Friday evening. But that would have been nice. I thought about going down from Jersey, but I don't think I will.
I'm going tomorrow night to stand in line at the Capitol. From other Parade experience (Cherry Blossom, Inaugural, etc.), I'd say just hit the middle and work your way up or down to the best spot. You should also get there several hours ahead of time.
Kristinn had a thread posted last evening....Several people posted schedule for trains,buses....maps.....other helpful hints. You might want to enter a search for it.

Freepers to meet at 15th and Constitution
That is what I will be doing on Thursday
I briefly considered it, but the trains to DC are apparently already selling out and (surprise surprise) I have to work Thursday and Friday.
Here's more detailed info from WTOP radio's website.
Metro To Run Shuttle
WASHINGTON -- Metro will accommodate people who want to see Ronald Reagan's casket Friday. The transit system says it will run shuttle buses between the Capitol and RFK Stadium.
Spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says the service will operate during the overnight hours for two consecutive nights. It begins Wednesday night at 11:30 p.m., continuing until 6 a.m. Thursday. Then, it resumes at 11:30 p.m. Thursday night until 6 a.m. Friday.
Metro says there will be three buses every 15-minutes, with more added if the need arises. Both the buses and the parking at RFK will be free, and Farbstein says D.C. police will be at the stadium to make sure people are safe in the wee hours of the morning.
Subway service will not change. There will be normal service, including regular closing times, all week.
In Reagan's memory, Metro is putting black bunting in the mezzanine of the airport station bearing his name.
No HOV Friday in Virginia
Virginia drivers are getting a break Friday.
With the day now a federal holiday, HOV restrictions are being lifted on Interstates 66, 95 and 395, along with the Dulles Toll Road. Single drivers can use those car pool lanes Friday without fear of being ticketed.
V-DOT also says that on Friday there won't be any lane closures on the major highways in Northern Virginia. That includes the roads at the Springfield Mixing Bowl and the Wilson Bridge.
