I don't think wearing fancy clothes is appropriate - especially heels. Coat and tie could be pretty stifling if during the daytime.

I wore a jacket and tie today, and my daughter wore heels. Granted, the marine layer kept the heat off, but we brought our own water and were prepared to sweat more and stand longer.

Could we do any less?

President Reagan never removed his jacket while he was in the Oval Office.

I'm not sure how you felt about it, but some of the attire I oberved today was distrubing. Entering into the presence of Reagan was a unique moment for me, one that I could not in good concience have approached with casual clothing. I agree with your comment about Reagan and his ethic of dressing formally in the Oval office.

I stand by no heels - the person I was with stumbled down one of the paths and almost fell to her knees.
