We live within driving distance to DC and have family there to spend the night with -- would you take your five-yr-old to see the funeral procession? How 'bout a 3-yr-old?

We are in Phoenix and she isn't quite getting the whole idea and has dealt with several family deaths over the past four years.

She won't let me watch TV or check the net right now.

Definitely take the 5 yr old. It is a memory that will remain with him for the remainder of his life. The 3 yr old may have a little difficulty with the somberness of the situation but you have to decide that yourself.

I think the 5 year old will be old enough to understand and remember the importance and history of it. The 3 year old will be antsy after a while (but you know that!). I would make sure you bring lots of snacks and coloring books to keep them busy. Maybe a new toy.

I had my five year old watching the ceremony...I hope he remembers.
