I remember hearing that, if you examine tapes closely, during every administration, that, before the President exits Marine 1, the Marines face toward the White House until the President gets to the steps leading down out of the chopper, then they turn in and face toward the steps. Not so during the Clinton administration aberration, I've heard but never confirmed.

This is an urban legend. Regardless of how the individuals of the military felt about clinton, and believe me it wasn't much, they would never have treated him with anything other than with the respect his office demanded.

For better or worse, he was the Commander in Chief.

the open mike was a sound check...still one of the greatest lines. Mr.C4E has been waiting all weekend to see if they will show/play that one line. So far they haven't.

FWIW there is an msnbc audio feed at http://64.36.35.154:18000

Not that I'm endorsing them. There is also a limited number of listening slots.

"Oh you mean smelly beans ;-)"

Send them a truckload of the Harry Potter-style jelly beans: vomit, earwax, etc.

Wanna know the REALLY incredible thing about the Lord? He loves Clinton, too. Doesn't mean he'll go to Heaven, but the Lord still loves him.

Yes the Lord does love him, and Clinton still has a chance to get into Heaven (but it's gonna take a lot for him to get there).

It reminded me of some of the wakes I've been to. You're mourning, but you remember the wonderful times you had with the departed loved one. You're crying one moment, then laughing, then crying again.

One of my mother's girl friends (she's 86) has a practice wake every year. She invites oodles of folks over for hor'dourves and drinks and asks them to celebrate life. They've been doing it for so many years now, I honestly think her wake will be yet another entertaining event for all attendees - just as she has planned.

Is there anything the radical dems are going to like this week.

All I know is Kerry better be seated with the other Senators as protocol on Friday. If he is placed anywhere else I am going to loose my mind.

I understand Hillary is accorded to be seated next to her husband, the former President but I swear if Kerry is not seated with the Senators I will go on a postal rampage.

The man talking was saying that just before he died President Reagan open his eyes and looked at Nancy. Then he closed them and he passed away!

That was so miraculous. One last look from her husband, with his eyes clear, and not clouded as they had been for so long.

The man who said that, in case it hasn't been mentioned, is an editor at People Magazine, which this Friday is running a terribly poignant article written by Patti. He and Linda Vester were reading parts of it, it's going to be a keeper, I think.

It seems Patti has inherited her father's great way with words (judging by the article on newsweek/msnbc site yesterday, a beautiful ode to her father).
