Do you remember November 9,1989? Do you remember thousands of West Berliners waiting on their side of the wall with bottles of champagne while East Germans were breaking through?I remember crying with my fellow NCOs at the MCAS Beaufort enlisted club.
I was on duty in a quonset hut at Camp Tamez, Cubi Pt, Phillipines, watching the historic event on AFRTS, (Armed Forces Radio/Television Service). Coincidentally, I was on WESTPAC there with a squadron from MCAS Beaufort.
I felt an enormous sense of pride in our nation that day, but being a Marine, I'll never admit to crying. ;^)

Right, I guess if they do NOT style themselves as the exploited, disadvantaged, downtrodden, neglected, oppressed, etc. ...who would listen to them?

Ha! Fitting duty for the President of the greatest national entity in the universe. And maybe it was the limit of Carter's capabilities too...to keep track of whose using the WH tennis court. What was he thinking?

Just last week Thomas Friedman at the New York Times wrote an article giving credit for setting in motion the chain of events that brought down the Soviet Union to George Bush (41), to Brent Scowcroft and James Baker, and to European leaders such as Margaret Thatcher and Francois Mitterrand. There was no mention of Ronald Reagan. Was this carelessness? Forgetfulness? Or was it an intentional effort from this New York Times writer to deny Reagan his legacy? I guess Friedman knows better than Thatcher herself then. Rush was just talking about a dinner to which he was invited, the guest of honor was Margaret Thatcher.
Rush asked her a question, re: the media claiming that Gorbachev was responsible for the fall of the wall. She became very stern, was incensed at the notion that anyone but RR was the impetus for this.

I was trying to draw a similarity between what the media did to undermine Reagan and what they are doing to undermine Bush. Reagan won in a landslide. Bush may as well. It just depends on how much faith you put in the media for gauging the voice of America.
If the current media portrayal showing the nutty fringe to actually be the voice of the Dem majority is true, then one would be lead to believe that Kerry will get the 40-45% of Dem votes that the polls show. This will prove that the "Anybody but Bush" push was not media controlled, but was the true voice of the average Dem.
If the current media portrayal is false, then Bush may not win in a landslide like 1984, but the results will be more similar to 1984 than 2000.
Personally, I agree with you that there is only a nutty fringe and not a nutty majority. I also believe that most polls are not correct, much like the polls from last year's Governor race in California.
I am predicting a 55-40-5 Bush victory.
Don't know how predictable the poll is but
www.congress.org is showing a pretty picture for Bush.

seems one day Carter heard a loud argument among several of his staffers about scheduled court time, so, to avoid further problems, he took the sign-up book and kept in on his desk for several months...anyone who wanted to book court time had to do it through Carter. In f'n credible.

Which squadron? I was in VMFA-451. I was in VMFA-115, in '89 and VMFA-122 prior to that, we've probably crossed paths. Small world, eh?

Let them wallow in their hatred. It will destroy them in the end.I view them as every bit as pernicious and evil as the Nazis. I seriously believe that only a military solution will be capable of dealing with the threat to the world that leftists pose.
I, for one, would cheer that solution.

I will be recording Pres. Reagan's funeral service on Friday and will be particularly interested in hearing the Iron Lady's tribute to him that will be played there (her health prevents her from public speaking). That will be something to have for the ages.

"Political beliefs are more important than the gift of life? That is quite simply the most morally repugnant thing I have contemplated in a while."
Well, that defined the Left rather clearly. They revel over the dismemberment of a tiny infant, championing such a barbarism by saying it's the woman's "right" to snuff out such an innocent life. The Left is devoid of anything positive and meaningful; its foundation is ignorance and hatred. The Left is a cancer that must be excised from the body politic of American life.

a friend of mine who considers herself a democrat, told my husband after she saw this on DU she will never vote democrat again. Then don't introduce Free Repubic to her, the nutter fringe here will soon enough write something to swear off Republicans.

You have to remember this is a group of people who do not cherish human life, unless it can be made dependent or taxed.

I will not be satisfied until the death camps run day and night, killing liberals. That goes a tad overboard, but hey... if it'll save one child....

Wonder if Keillor said something like, "shame on you"Knowing Keillor, his only regret was probably that he wasn't able to joing in the cheering because his mike was open. He probably just sat up there with a big sh!t-eating grin on his face while the applause went on.
