Someone said last night that Dan Rather was tearing up talking about Pres. Reagan. I think it was more that he was in pain having to say something nice about the man instead of any real heartfelt emotion.
I don't think so. Dan is a bit of an emotional flake. I'm frankly surprised that he doesn't tear up every time he is on the air.

He's tearing up at the thought of the inevitable.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Rather tears up when Kenneth won't tell him the frequency.

I agree. Although I didn't see this, I don't question Rather's sincerity. His sanity, however, is another matter entirely.
I had to stop watching Dan altogether many years ago. It wasn't so much because of his elitist media bias, but because he was creeping me out! (I bailed about the time he was wearing those big, heavy sweaters, and intoning, "Courage!" at the end of his broadcast for no discernible reason.
